What Pete Carroll told Jerry about Brian Schottenheimer

It was a horrible hire regardless of what Pete thinks of him. The Jones's hired someone who made them comfortable. Let that sink in. They hired a guy who will allow them to run the draft, make personnel decisions, coaching decisions, and most importantly grin and spin the same product they've been selling for 20 years. A yes man that carries the clout of a recognizable NFL name. Schotty is nothing more than comfort food spread across the Jones's dinner table. There is absolutely no reason to think this would work. 28 years in the league and this is the organization where it's all going to come to fruition? This is the roster, the QB, the support system, and the ownership that's finally going to allow Schotty to break on through to the other side?

The one and only positive of the Schotty hire is it gets Dallas one step closer to winning the Arch derby.

I get it but it’s exactly what makes me hesitant to buy in. A play caller who was let go for becoming too passive happy? The same play caller was the OC for the cowboys last season where a major issue is they were too….pass happy? I get the run first talk sounds great, and he’s assembled a coaching staff to support it, but I need to see it in action and see this front office actually go get some guys to run the football effectively.
Sometimes coordinators are forced to adjust ........injuries to key personnel, game flow........look no further than Kellen Moore. Ran out of Dallas for too pass-happy but won a Super Bowl on the back of a running game.

Also, I'm not sure how much weight to put into his firing by Carroll, especially since he gave Shotty a glowing review for Jerry.

He will be fine if he gets the horses on the field.

How do you feel about this front office providing exactly that?
I'm not sure but I do think the national criticism and embarrassment have had SOME impact on Jerry and Stephen regardless of what they are saying in public. I think we will see SOME improvement from FO but their bar is low, that's not saying much. (lol)

Well I didn't really fire him...
No wait, Well I guess I kinda did...

Oh I'll just concede to whatever fluff story you want me to so as not to disgrace his family name cuz I respected his dad.

That about covers it, next question.

I have to be careful because Schotty's success or lack thereof has little to do with how he was chosen but hearing Carroll say he had to reassure Jerry does not strike me as a good thing. Now Jerry is hiding from the media in Indy.

I can see a scenario where Schotty succeeds. When you look at the coaches he has worked for it is not a bad list. His Dad, Mangini, Fisher, Ryan, Meyer, MM, and Carroll. By all accounts including now Carroll, he has been preparing for this for a long time. That in turn hearkens to Landry and his discussions about preparation. There is a route to success in there.

I won't be holding my breath.

I'd say that's one hell of an opportunity.
nobody else in the NFL wanted to work for Jerry Jones, so there you go.

The talk was that Stephen wanted to fire McCarthy last year and was Schotty's biggest proponent, but Jerry grew to like Mike. I suspect that's why Jerry had to be "reassured."

Oh boy, some will not like this. And invent some negativity.

Good to hear this actually from a HC that some can respect.
I dint think it's that people "won't like it"

But I think most fans that have a lick of sense realize coaches will always talk up other coaches.

I mean really....when is the last time you saw a new guy get hired as a head coach or coordinator on ANY team...where coaches he's worked with in the past said "oh man, that guy SUCKS"

we could have hired the assistant long snapper coach that worked for 5 days under Pete Caroll, and if someone asks about that assistant long snapper coach Pete would be all "GREAT GUY, HE'S READY!!! HE BELIEVES IN PHYSICAL OLINE AND DLINE PLAY. He's a big culture guy. HE WANTS TO RUN THE BALL'

It's just meaningless fluff that means nothing. Just something to put in an article. Think of the WORST possible coach you can think of, who totally flamed out and got fired after 1 year...and I guarantee you THAT guy had things said about him like this when he was first hired.

Meaningless fluff... but not bad or good. Just irrelevant. I'm sure (hope) most people in here are smart enough to know that.

I have my reservations about it as it was a lazy hire and one made out of comfort vs merit. However, he's been around football for a long time and maybe he's a better head coach than play caller? I'll give him a chance, but have him on a very hot seat.

Brian was born for this moment
I am impressed with the coaching staff he has put together, and I also like the vision he has for the offense. It looks promising, next step player acquisition improving the roster.

I think going into this head coaching cycle Ben Johnson looked like the prime get around the league, but when you look back on it in review it was Brian Schottenheimer all along.
