End of thread. We've talked on this board for years about this issue.

#88 is the obvious answer.

The entire offensive line not far behind.

#22 needs mention also, although there is hope on the horizon here.

We had #28's replacement, at least until he got his money.

Haven't secured the "other corner" position yet either.

And frankly... the jury is still out on whether we've found a replacement for #8 yet.

The old Roy Willilams was a special player, the guy that flew around making plays - was really our only superstar for a few years. Woody left, and suddenly he looked lost. No coincidence there.

try as you will you can never replace greatness

Woodson was a very good even one of the best that played while he was active, but I wouldn't classify him as greatness. Greatness was Ronnie Lott, Paul Krause, Larry Wilson, and Ed Reed of active safeties. Before I stamp you with greatness you have to be an all-time great. Say like Larry Allen is greatness to the guard position. Emmitt to RB, etc.

This conversation begins and immediately ends with Woodson.

You're on drugs if you truly believe that with all the other Cowboys greats.

it was a general reference to the team and what they ment to the team in their time frame. Dandy Don Meredith is considered a great QB abet not in the Hall but we consider him a great QB.

A Larry Allen or Ken Norton Jr. in their prime would do nicely.

At the worst, Woodson was near greatness then.
All-time leading tackler for one of the league's most storied franchises? A leader on 3 SB winning teams?
Ed Reed is a better ball-hawk but I don't think people fear him like Woodson.
He wasn't Lott or Krause but he's not far behind.

Woodson was one of the best in his era, modern protype of size & speed, right there with Butler and Lake.

And Woodson was one of the great Cowboys Safeties no doubt, probably neck and neck with only Capt. Crash, Cliff Harris.

But he was not the secondary leader on THREE championship teams. He was not the leader when vets like Horton, Everett & Washington were on the team. The '95 SB, no doubt, but afterward he was co-leader w/Marion, then Teague. He was only the clear cut leader during the Campo years and after.

Getting back to the OP's original question though, the Cowboy that still has not been replaced is either head coach Jimmy Johnson or LG Larry Allen, and to a lesser extent Moose Johnston.

Greats have left and we've been able to fill the void. We haven't had a decent leader on the D since Woodson went down. His presence was a big part of how a team with starters like Willie Blade, Al Singleton, Ebenezer Ekuban, and Mario Edwards produced one of the best Ds in the league in 2003
