What position group can you leave behind?

The Mingo move created what feels like a canyon between that 3rd and 5th pick so a lot is riding on the two picks tonight. Given that 3 primary needs (per chatter leading up to this) are DT, WR, & RB and with two picks in tonight’s chamber, which position would you feel most comfortable holding off until later or feel ok about targeting in free agency?

Lot of ways to go with this, and to me, with the RB class being so deep that would be the kick the can answer but then again, what if Judkins is sitting there (I think a good chance he is) at 44 are you o.k. passing on him? Of course, a guy like Schwesinger could land at 44 and now you could be leaving day 2 with 2 positions of need unaddressed.

Then again, the most consistent CB walked out the door a couple months ago. At receiver, if you don’t grab a guy your WR group is CD & the also-rans. Fun college band name but it stinks as a receiving corp.

Just talked myself out of my initial question. So, I’ll re-phrase and ask, “Is there a position group you feel better about not addressing tonight believing there are resources in-house or you trust the organization to target in free agency?”

Guaranteed at the conclusion tonight there will be a lot of complaints about what the Cowboys didn’t do but with so many needs that’s bound to happen. BTW, with what was on the board when the Cowboys picked in round one, I think they did a solid job with that selection. A good sign the new regime knows what’s up.

WR. Sign a FA. Not thrilled what's left in the draft.

Also I wouldn't call the current corp "CD & the also-rans" either.
I don't know about that there's quite a few on the board now I don't know if they'll be there at 44 but wide receivers there's still some pretty good ones there's something that are going to be dark horses such shocks surprise some dudes with some big numbers in college that are being overlooked because of their sample size but we I don't know if we need to skip it over we need to look at all over it should be bpa I know that's hard after last night but if that wide receiver is there like burden there's a couple of them that there wasn't a big gap between the top four wide receiver just like the running backs so we'll see what's there...

I don't think they can afford to look over any position other than quarterback, maybe safety, and TE... However there's still a lot of options so I don't think you can really pass over anyone at this point if you do true BPA you can hit any need right now 2nd and 3rd round have to come away with skilled players really.. From my opinion wide receiver running back are still in play but if a top corner is there you gotta take him I mean I don't know....

Leave Corner behind please.

If you give me Judkins or Johnson at 44 take a DT like Farmer in the 3rd. We can also trade back into the 4th with the late picks we have as well.

I feel they need to address WR in round 2 or not at all. After the couple higher rated players are gone, no one after that floats my boat at all. Maybe they can take a chance on Isaiah Bond if he lasts to the 6th.

But of the positions of need, WR, RB, DT, LB, CB I want to address them all tonight but since we can't I think they need to go RB and maybe DT tonight. Judkins and Alfred Collins. Or Darius Alexander and RJ Harvey?

I think Skattebo, Jordan James and and Bhayshul Tuten may be available at 76, Not crazy about any of them but then they need to look at RB at 44.

I have a feeling Dallas is going to take a CB at 44. Just a gut feeling.

Some good names in there. Aven8 mentioned Farmer which another player I like.

Somewhat agree with your receiver perspective. Wait longer and perhaps your taking guys that may not exceed the potential of what’s in-house. With the exception of Burden, the Cowboys could possibly be there now.

I would grab Tuten @ 76. I believe he’s gone before then. He seems to play with the center of gravity of a shorter back but he’s 5’11”.

We have some solid players at S. No one is a stand out ball hawking / tackling machine stud. But they are solid, and maybe on emerges.

I rather them focus on a RB with the 2nd round pick. Unless Will Johnson falls at CB. But I feel they think they are ok at CB, and will take one later.
So CB would be next after S that they leave alone. Possibly WR as well. They can get both on day 3 for depth.

Now since they took Booker, I think they can leave OL alone as well. They have some promising players on the OL.

It’s hard to know without knowing the plan at CB. Does Gilmore factor in on that? What is the true health of Diggs? Is he in future plans or is he a cut candidate? What type of veteran interest is there at RB, CB or other spots after the draft.

RB - clear need. Do they see multiple tiers of guys left or are a lot of guys the same? I’d love a powerful, punishing RB to pair with Booker.

CB - I think this is a need but can we bring in Gilmore or someone else short term?

LB - What is the health of the LB core? Does our new DC like our guys? Do we have any highly ranked LB’s on our board?

WR - I’m not as worried as some. This might be the area I skip.
Mingo - is 6’2” with speed, never had a legitimate QB in the NFL, he’s only 24. I want to see what he can do.
Tolbert - just had 600+ yards and 7TD’s. Just missed 50 receptions. He’s going into a contract year, might be his best year yet.
Turpin - I think he’s vastly underutilized. Possibly the fastest man in the NFL. Had 400+ yards receiving in the first year we really used him. He just signed a 3yr $14M deal. Use him.
Paris Campbell - He’s the #4. 27 with 4.3 speed no one has been able to use. I think he’s had an issue with health. The one time he played more than 12 games he had 600+ yards.

If at the pick WR is easily BPA then grab one, but I don’t see it a way bigger hole than many other spots. This isn’t a SB contender that is a WR away and if Lamb is injured whoever we took this draft wasn’t really going to fill in anyways. Let’s see if Mingo or Tolbert step up, if not then grab a 1-2 rd one next year.

OG was not a need in rd 1
The real needs were DT1T, WR2, CB, RB, LB

Should have been addressed in FA but were not

Then when you stupidly spend your best asset on OG, now you are behind the 8 ball

Stupid franchise
Stupid FO

Trying to cater to an overpaid average injured QB and making stupid decisions

The draft is so deep at RB that I would skip it until Day 3. Maybe try to trade into the 4th round but if not then I'm fine with waiting until later. With our OL of 1st round picks, they should be able to turn someone we get later in the draft into a star.

Can't say the same for DT or WR so they better address it early or else we will have nothing but projects and part-time players if we wait.

During the NFL Network broadcast last night there was an insinuation made regarding long-term, career inhibiting potential in terms of Johnson’s knee injury. The crew didn’t dwell on it, they just tossed out a quick blurb as to why he’s still on the board.

If true, the Cowboys a definitely taking him.

WR, mungo needs to do his job

Cornerback

Get to the qb before he throws the ball or pressure him….

As far as the run game if you rely on corners to help out there you have a bigger issue

I'm really hoping for Smoochie Wallace, Quisperny G'Dunzoid Jr, or Jackmerious Jacktheratrix

Biggest needs on this team for next season are WR and RB. Longer term we need DT and CB. Those defensive needs aren’t as urgent because Mazi will start at 1T no matter how bad he plays and Diggs won’t be cut until after the season.
