Was that McCarthy though?
So you think Sherman had him developed to that point in 1 year and McCarthy just sat him for the next two?

I'm a Texas A&M fan, and it reminds me of the time when people thought Kevin Sumlin was a QB guru because he developed Case Keenum at Houston and Johnny Manziel at TAMU into two of the most productive college quarterbacks in history. Turns out it was all his OC, Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury has continued to develop great QBs while Sumlin has washed out.
If McCarthy is such a genius QB coach, how come Rodgers backup didn't excel when Rodgers was injured?
Also, I really have a hard time believing that a brand new NFL HC had the time to coach up his HOF starting QB and also coach up the backup. Usually it's the QB coach and OC that do that...
It would be awesome if McCarthy is as good as some wish but I think he's more likely to continue to underperform like he did during his last years with GB.
Don't forget McCarthy also had Joe MontanaWhat the hell are you talking about? Tony Romo's development from UNDFA to starter happened under Parcells lol
And again, can some of you actually use your brain and do research? I think having the development of Rich Gannon and Aaron Rodgers, along with getting Brett Favre's career back on track is a little better resume than Wade and Jason taking over Parcell's team.

The current talking point from contrarians right now is that McCarthy road the coattails of Rodgers. Let's forget the fact that he revived Favre's dying career and gave him a second wind, and go straight to Rodgers. Rodgers was a first round talent that almost slipped to the second round due to some mechanics and attitude issues. Not only did McCarthy keep Rodgers ego in check for nearly a decade, he pretty much rebuilt Rodgers into the QB he is today. Check out Rodgers' rookie preseason highlights, this is not franchise level QB stuff and you can see why he slipped. Held the ball too high, slow release, even some bad footwork.
At the very least, what you'll get from McCarthy is that he'll get the best out of Dak Prescott. You can bet on this. However Prescott plays under McCarthy will be his ceiling. If you're a huge Dak fan, the #1 priority right now would be getting Prescott to become a franchise QB and we brought in the best coach on the market for this.
Rodgers was like that in college as well. Rodgers will eventually place blame on his new HC if things go south as well.
Ego too big to admit his own faults.

Rodgers was pouting early on this season about the new coach...even though they started 7-1
agreed. I don't know how good a coach MM is but my mindset is that he got more results than he should have which is encouraging. At least that is the hope. He is better than JG so that is a start.I never thought of the Packers as an ultra talented team overall. It seems their record outpaced the talent many seasons.
You still need talent at the QB position....
Also, Matt Flynn played pretty well under McCarthy. Rich Gannon was a backup for years, he gives credit to McCarthy for his development into a starting QB in the league. And Brett Hundley is still a backup QB in this league, it's not like he completely flopped.
And you can have a "hard time" believing anything - both Brett Favre and Rich Gannon have talked about McCarthy what they helped do

""Paul Hackett and Mike McCarthy, those two guys in particular really set my career on the path, on the right path, and really taught me how to break down film and analyze opponents and look for keys. That was really the starting point for me."

rarely do backups "excel" when they are thrown to the wolves. If that was the case, the QB position wouldn't be that important. If McCarthy is such a genius QB coach, how come Rodgers backup didn't excel when Rodgers was injured?
