no, the head coach holds the final vote in who's drafted. the hc is the person that tells the drafting dept. what type of players they want

Not in Cowboy land.

The HC has a voice in the team drafting not the final.

We the fans have wanted Garrett fired for a long time..

Jerry and company have kept the coaching staff consistent. That is the best thing for the team. The players respect a coaching staff that is backed by the front office.

Great job. I'm glad we dont make the calls .

Yet its been the complete opposite. Every coach around Garrett has been turned over at least two times since Garrett has been here. AND the fact that Jerry just made another huge change in firing Linehan and bringing in Moore has now elevated this team to contender status.

How do you know Garrett had nothing to do with that?

They play hard for Garrett can you at least give him that? Some coaches are so bad the teams just flat out quit, like they did on Wade.

Lets not forget that Garrett was the OC for the Wade team. So they quit on him too.

That being said, I think Garretts strength is getting players and ownership to like him.

Whether Garrett had anything to do with the firings doesn't relate to your point. You applauded the continuity of the coaching staff. Only at HC there has been continuity while Garrett has been here. The rest of the staff there has been very little.

This came up in another thread. We all know Garrett is Jerrys hand picked puppet. But is Stephen a fan of Garrett? If Stephen was running this thing, would firing Garrett be one of his first moves? Or do Stephen and Garrett work hand and hand to team up on Jerry?
Garrett won't be fired. He will move into a cushy FO job.

Garrett is the foil for Jerry. Somewhere between Greg Ellis and today Jerry has decided/was convinced to let the coaches decide on field matters. Yes, they may all talk about it, and like Stephen said, ultimately it's Jerry's decision, but for some reason we don't see Jerry making the bonehead decisions he did in the past. We don't see him having personal discussions with the players about the coaches.

So Jerry is happier with the way Garrett runs the shop. And Jerry is happier he doesn't get dragged into the petty arguments between players and coaches. He can devote more time to his more important jobs.

In the least that says Jerry trusts and respects Garrett to do the right thing for the club.

I think Stephen is looking to get the best parts to get Cowboys wins.
If that means - that he thinks a coaching upgrade is needed - he will make the change.
Within this - any new coach would be told - yes you have a say in drafting but the Will McClay group holds the final vote.
Jerry has the final vote.

Wow.....Dak is playing great through two games, so even at 2-0, we have to point our displeasure and hate somewhere, and now it’s on Jason Garrett.

Check your history. There’s only one reason Garrett is our head coach. He was running a top 5 offense as OC. Jerry paid him huge money to keep him as coordinator so he wouldn’t go be a head coach elsewhere, and there was interest. He had interviews and an offer according to reports. Jerry stuck with him through some growing pains and now views him as a successful head coach. You can pick on him for anything you wish. But Garrett has been here for a long time now through up and down years, and no team has ever quit on him. He’s never lost a locker room. He’s never had players badmouthing him, not even after they leave. The Cowboys play hard for him. So what is he doesn’t currently coach the offense or defense. He HAS done it, and I’m sure he plays a role in weekly game planning. He’s like plenty of other coaches, like Tomlinson in Pittsburg. He just doesn’t have the SB.....yet.

It cracks me up every time I read the bolded part as an excuse to keep Garrett as HC.

Garrett had a good first season as an OC for the same reason Moore has been successful in his first 3 games - there wasn't any film for opposing defenses to study. After that 1st season Garrett received two offers, both of which were declined because Jerry promised him the HC role. How many other offers has Garrett received since 2007? ZERO, NADA, NOTHING.

When Jerry promised JG the HC role it caused turmoil and drama. Wade wasn't a good HC, but that isn't why the 2010 team started out as bad as it did. The battle between Wade and Garrett was apparently a huge distraction and the team suffered as a result. Wade ended up being the sacrificial lamb to make way for Jerry's diabolical experiment.

Yes. But they vote together as a group.

They do, but my point was that while McClay's input is certainly a key part of the decision making process on draft day, he does not have the final say.

On a maybe related topic...

who's next after Stephen is the power structure of the front office?

He was not looking particularly healthy yesterday during a pregame interview.

After finally getting expunged from the offense, its a mystery what Garrett actually does anymore that really matters. Is it any wonder this team has come together the less Garrett is involved?

And Garrett's one dimensional offense got figured out fast and he couldn't adjust. Reports of Garrett sabotaging Wade came out after Wade was fired.

They do NOT vote together as a group. Jerry listens to opinions and makes the call.

They all express who they want, but you are right that it's probably not accurate to truly call it a vote. It's still Jerry's final call.
