the most if Frederick doesn't play well?

Mine is Floyd because he was the highest ranked on their board.

Followed closely by Eifert who was ranked much higher than Escobar. My guess is Dallas could have had Eifert and Frederick if they would have played it right.

It'll upset me if Lane Johnson plays well. I don't want the Eagles to have an elite athletic LT for the next decade. I hope that he ends up struggling in his conversion to the pros dealing with powerful DEs or with his technique against speed rushers. He was definitely the greenest of the top 3 LTs although probably had the most upside in the end.

I'll also be upset if Pugh is great. Mostly because he was the other interior player for the OL we were targeting but the Giants got him instead of us when we traded down. I think the kid has high bust potential because of short arms for Tackle and weak anchor for OG. So I'm not upset at all that the Giants got him instead of us and am happy that someone else picked him up as I think we had him rated slightly higher but he wouldn't give us that dominant inline run blocker for short yardage situations that we crave. Nevertheless, I'd still be upset if he plays really well since that was one of the guys we were targeting but lost in the trade down.

A lot of people talk about Floyd but the guy I'll be upset more about is Sylvester Williams. He fell all the way to #29 before the Broncos took him. I coveted him as a DT in the Kiffen system with his explosive first step up the field on the snap and loved his immense power. Guys with his size and quickness don't grow on trees and often go in the top 10. I see him as a low risk player who only fell because of age - but that age gave him drive and discipline to become a great player in college. He has a much better anchor than Floyd, he was quicker off the snap and he has much more size and length in his toolkit. The other thing is that I loved the trade-down but would have loved if we had traded back up a little bit to get Sly once he fell to the bottom of the first round. I still think we probably could have tried to trade up in the second to target Travis Frederick around #38-40 with a 3rd day draft pick. This would have really strengthened our trenches and brought some much needed youth to the DL.

Your guess has no merit at all. No one can say Frederick would have been available and the team was unwilling to risk it. What you failed to mention was even if they got Eifert and Frederick, they would not have had the extra 3rd rounder so that means no Williams. For me, Frederick, Escobar, and Williams is better than Eifert and Frederick.

Eifert & Frederick versus Frederick & Escobar & Williams. That is the right comparison, which of course assumes that Frederick would have lasted to pick 47.

6th Round--we have no established depth at DE behind the starters, and Washington, 4.55 40 and 33 reps who held the line as a 3-4 end for a nationally ranked team was available. He was misused by Georgia, and had no sacks due to a system and his being a team player, not because of an absence of talent. Todd Grantham is not considered a great coordinator here in Georgia and his saying anything good about Washington's sack ability would make him look like a bad coordinator. Instead of Garrett, as the head coach, evaluating the needs of his team as a whole and finding a probable diamond in the rough at a position of need, he lets the special teams coach choose a player. This was too deep a draft to throw away a pick on special teams.

I agree with this. And I think Eifert will be a stud in this league.

You're making a big assumption thinking Frederick would've been around when we had picked again in the 2nd round.

Eric Reid, the safety from LSU. I won't be mad that he plays well just mad as hell that we don't have him...he's going to become one of the top safeties in the NFl, and we could have had him.

None. I only care about how Cowboys players do. If your a good enuff team you dont have to worry one wit about what anyone else is doing. You simply enforce your will on those teams.

First thing I will question is Callahan, there is a list a mile long of coaches who have risen through the ranks, failed at the top, then tried to return at a lower level.

Some do well; some forget how they made it to the top in the first place.

I would give Callahan a C last year, that grade could go either way this year.

Sure, we had challenges on the OL, but there were a lot of basic fundamental mistakes, from Tyson on down. OL coach is a full time job, we'll see if he can OC/game plan at the same time. Hopefully, he doesn't have one eye on the HC gig.

I've whined enough about the draft, I'll leave that to you.:laugh2:

I'll go on the players they picked.
For me it is Escobar. Just another wasted 2nd round pick on a TE. I hope i'm proven wrong tho

Anticipating being upset. Let me think up reasons why I can be mad....

The 'What rookie playing poorly will make you happy if Frederick plays great?' thread doesn't sound like as much fun, though.

Floyd, but I think he was hyped up by the media pre-draft. He wasn't very productive in college.

I think Frederick will do fine though.

There's a long list of others but not really related to the Frederick pick, as we could have grabbed them anyway.

Can't get too worked up anyway, as we can't redraft.
