. . . .is Jerry having complete control over the draft this year. I feel BP failed us as a coach, but I think he brought in some talent despite Jerry.

Nah, Jerry knows that experiment didn't work. He will always be involved, but not to that extent any more. ESPN even had a quote from Jerry stating that much.

Also lets not forget as Cold Pizza just mentioned that the coaches that have followed right after Parcells "retirement" have at most been there 2 years. I am hoping that that our beloved Cowboys will figure something out that that BP's previous teams have not.

Frankly, other than hitting on some contributing guys in round 7, I don't think Parcells did anything special in the draft....guys like Ware and Carpenter were sort of easy....he surely blew it on the OL in the draft, and I'm not overly impressed with how high we selected Spears or the fact that we passed on Stephen Jackson for JJ and Spears. Burnett with a 2nd round pick?

I give Parcells a B for building the type of team he wanted via free agency, etc, but I can't give him better than a C or C+ for the actual drafts.

It would have been terrible if with BP leaving that Ireland was leaving too. That was undoubtedly the best hire that BP has made in his tenure.

This is assuming Jerry will actually listen to Jeff and the scouts. We need a coach, who like Jimmy and BP, Jerry will listen to also.

Most coaches, if lucky will hit on 50% of the draft picks. It's not like we're stacked from top to bottom, but Parcells gets more than just a passing grade, IMO - of course that might get better or worse depending on how the 2006 draft works out. I like Carpenter and Watkins, hopefully the next coach can figure out a way to get Fasano and Witten out there at the same time and actually use both of them. He hasn't done a good job on the lines, but maybe at least the DL can improve, as draft picks. In any case, that grade is mroe of an incomplete than anything else.

I don't think starters is a great way to look at it - especially if you consider that two of those starters last year were Bradie James and Marcus Spears.

Spears will be fine in a new system...the guy has too much talent

In addition, starters does not take guys like Crayton and MB3 into account. You can be a starter and blow, or you can be a backup with talent.

I don't know about Spears, David. I think he's talented, but maybe fat and unmotivated. We'll learn alot about some of these players the "system" was allegedly holding back.

If we don't have a coach in place well before the draft then you should REALLY be scared.

Drafting and building the team were the things that BP actually got right. I think he was way overrated as a motivator and downright sucked as a game planner and gameday coach.

I have no problem with his drafting except for the ever so obvious bonehead drafting of Rogers. His medical history was there for all to see and BP took him anyway...supposedly over the objections of almost everyone in the room.

Peterman may or may not have been a mistake; he was picked up and was actually playing for Detroit so the mistake may have been in his release not in drafting him. I know Detroit is hardly a glowing recommendation but he IS playing somewhere so the jury is still out on him.

On the second day we got Canty, MBIII, Crayton, Watkins (I have faith in him), Reeves, and Nate Jones who are all solid contributors. The second day picks that Parcells made were near genius especially in the 7th round. That was where BP really shined.

All that being said I am glad the SOB is gone. His teams have invariably folded down the stretch and I think it was due to him and his coaching style and the fact that he himself grew tired down the stretch and slacked off on his own prep work.

Exactly.... Jeff Ireland will run the show. We'll know after this draft what we have in Ireland.

If he is not in place within a week after the Superbowl we are in trouble in this years draft unless Ireland has the cajones to go toe to toe with Jerry.
