What schemes would you prefer on Offense/Defense

I heard a college coach say recently that when you watch most NFL games they're mostly all the same in terms of scheme. I gotta say this is pretty true outside of Philadelphia.

Cowboys have a diverse offensive scheme that will go empty or will load up and pound the rock relentlessly. Defensively we've seen everything in last 10 years from soft 4-3/3-4 to hyper blitz 4-3/3-4.

Can someone find a team in which the scheme would be a magic elixir here? NFL is about players making the plays in the critical downs, like Heath not holding and Dez going up for the catch and holding on to the balls in their hands.

Garrett by most everyone on here is a great leader of men, the question people have is his scheme. Playcalling looked great last year, not so much this year. IMO players have to execute.

I think & FIRMLY believe that what you've seen is Romo making adjustments.

Why is Dez ALWAYS lined up outside? Scheme is one thing... Putting players in the best position to make plays is where we LACK imo.

On offense , create mismatches , adjust to the weakness of the defenses, don't wait for long developing routes all the time , don't play conservative all the time . take some chances.

On Defense , bench Hayden , play anyone but not him, get some discipline for stopping run , play to the strength of personnel ( like not zone but man coverage ) and blitz when no pressure with the main 4

I'd prefer Norv Turner running the timing-based Coryell offense if we are going to run it here...

You know, because the Vikings are sitting at 7-2 with Bridgewater at QB throwing for less than 200 yards..

How does that sound for an answer?

I miss the ol prevent defense with the Thurman Thieves. We would blitz Clinskale and Bates. Good times

That's as true as he's the next Landry.

I think the current offensive scheme is a bit outdated. It's very option route oriented. I think the larger issue is the unwillingness to move receivers around to create mismatches along some of the play designs which put players in disadvantageous positions. The playcalling is an issue because we do stupid things like go to shotgun too much on first and second down which more or less takes away the run option. We need to stop using Witten as a pivot route and YAC guy and start using him as a short and long route guy and a guy that only runs short routes when they are beyond the first down marker. And could we run a gadget play this century?

Defensively, I still like the 4-3 concept, but we have to figure out ways to stop the pick plays and the safety position needs massive improvement.

I love the 2 current systems the team runs (Air Coryell on O and the 4-3 on D). The problem with the versions that Dallas uses is that they don't truly use their players properly - the old square peg in the round whole axiom. The O could be 10 times better by simply doing one thing - moving Dez around. PERIOD!!!!!! If he's your stud, constantly putting him in different places confuses the D and truly opens up lanes for everyone else in the running and passing game. The D's main issue is Marinelli's insistence on having 4 "rush men" on the DL when the reality is he has 3 good to great ones - but the one that mans the 1T is holding the scheme back. After going back and looking at most of the All-22 Film for this year, T. Crawford is having to fight way too many double teams for the classic 3T. That's because no one fears the 1T. Even the Seahwaks this year brought in a legit 1T (A. Rubin) to make their line even better. Marinelli needs to become creative again or he won't be there much longer.

Whatever the scheme, they should just let Romo run the 2 minute offense all the time.

Our offense is at its best when he does because he calls his own plays and makes all the necessary adjusments JG and his staff can't/don't make.

Could you imagine how good this offense could be if we had coaches who could be creative and call games to exploit mismatches...combine that with Romo's understanding of the game and ability to read defenses. We would be a prolific offense.

instead we have coaches who have wasted the prime years of an elite QB.

It's not so much the scheme as it is making adjustments when needed. Aside from that we need better talent at key positions...
