Smith, who held a two-hour conference call with the reps later Thursday night, sent them the following email shortly after the the NFL announced its vote:
"As you know, the owners have ratified their propsal to settle our differences. It is my understanding that they are forwarding it to us.
As you may have heard, they apparently approved a supplemental revenue sharing proposal. Obviously, we have not been a part of those discussions.
As you know from yesterday, issues that need to be collectively bargained remain open; other issues such as workers compensation, economic issues and end of deal terms remain unresolved.
There is no agreement between the NFL and the Players at this time. I look forward to our call tonight."

He knows that NFL CANNOT negotiate issues such as workers comp etc until the Union actually re certify right???

On ESPN yesterday I watch him walk between Mortensen and other guy unexpectedly to shake hands and give everyone the impression that this was a DONE deal. Then this letter and crap?!!! Does he have any clout with the players? He along with the other reps got the deal done and now they can't sell it to the players?! Give me a break.

Smith is in it for the cash for himself ($1,900,000/yr). If the labor union leader position was a volunteer position this crap would have been taken care of long ago.

I basically got it from a player rep, they want more time to find loopholes so they can get more, so they can drag this out, while they have time to find loopholes in counter proposals, etc... :banghead:

I really find it hard to believe that Smith is not in any of these discussions. He is the HEAD of the NFLPA!?!? Lombardi was in awe last night believing that any type of proposal would not be seen by Smith before the owners vote on it.

That's exactly what his email says. Biased much?

I just love that everyone just jumps to insane conclusions when they have no idea what's going on behind closed doors. Is that something to be admired on here or what? I don't get it.

From his email it sounded as if this is not even close.

Anyone who watched NFL network yesterday probably saw him walk between Chris Mortensen and Smith unannounced/invited and started to shake hands. Just reading between the lines there makes one think the deal was DONE. Now all this drama from him?!

Welcome to the age when ignorance became a point of view. So of course it should be admired.
