I learned today that the Cowboys are #2 in the league on cap space spent at the WR position, second only to the Pack.
We all know that Dez’s cap hit is huge next year, currently set to be $16.5 mil before any reduction. But I was shocked to learn that Terrance Williams is currently slotted in 2018 as the 33rd highest paid receiver in the NFL, with a $4.75 mil cap hit. That would make him the highest paid #2 receiver in the league. That’s nuts.
Even Cole Beasley is in the top 40 of receiver pay next year at $4.25 mil.
After the Joey Galloway, TO and Roy Williams (WR) disasters of years ago, I thought Jerry had learned something about not over spending at WR. This over-valuing of the WR position is one reason we don’t have enough money recently to sign some FAs, especially on D, that are better than basement bargains.
I would argue that nit only Dez- but also T-Will and Beas need to take pay cuts or at least major restructures. Their production is nowhere near their cap space allotment.
Thoughts?
