I learned today that the Cowboys are #2 in the league on cap space spent at the WR position, second only to the Pack.

We all know that Dez’s cap hit is huge next year, currently set to be $16.5 mil before any reduction. But I was shocked to learn that Terrance Williams is currently slotted in 2018 as the 33rd highest paid receiver in the NFL, with a $4.75 mil cap hit. That would make him the highest paid #2 receiver in the league. That’s nuts.
Even Cole Beasley is in the top 40 of receiver pay next year at $4.25 mil.

After the Joey Galloway, TO and Roy Williams (WR) disasters of years ago, I thought Jerry had learned something about not over spending at WR. This over-valuing of the WR position is one reason we don’t have enough money recently to sign some FAs, especially on D, that are better than basement bargains.

I would argue that nit only Dez- but also T-Will and Beas need to take pay cuts or at least major restructures. Their production is nowhere near their cap space allotment.

Thoughts?

I never wanted Williams. that was a huge mistake. he is #3 outside receiver at best and is way over paid.

Actually this past season we were #1 in WR payroll, and this year we're #2 like you said. Been spewing this since mid season. It's ridiculous for this production. Meanwhile our defense is #32 in salary.

Hear it again folks......... #32!!!!!

That’s mostly about how many guys are under rookie deals and how many are on second contracts
We have 3 wr’s on second contracts,

:hammer:

A little truth goes a long way. The defensive line $ allocation will take a bit of a jump with $17 mill for Tank. What is it $9.5 mill for T Craw? $4-5 mill for Irving depending on 1'st or 2'nd round tender. Will Collins make it to a second contract? Who knows

Beyond a stupid FO making bad decisions? None

Yes we have 3 WRs on second contracts, which most other teams don’t...for a reason. Most teams’ FO doesn’t value the WR position as worthy of that kind of cash. To pay that much and get so little in return is crazy.

I agree with we pay too much but the problem pay is the most expensive. But he’s gonna be back this year. The question is at what price

Why wouldn’t Ty Crawford be a June 1 cut? He’s set to get $9.1 mil. A June 1 cut would only be a $3.1 cap hit. I just don’t see the value in keeping him.

That is so crazy and stupid!! In the history of the NFL, not necessarily last year, great defenses consistently beat great offenses. A great defense isn’t affected as much by one injury, penalties, the weather, etc. Of the top 10 offenses of all time( NFL Network )only a couple of those teams won Superbowls, where as the top defenses of all time( Chicago, Ravens, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Denver, 90’s Cowboys)won almost all the Superbowls they were in. I’d take a great D over a great O every time. Well know, though, Jerry is more about putting on a good show than winning. He even admitted it after a heart breaking high scoring loss. I think it was the GB loss were they came back from being 20 something down.
