Mickens, Smith and Hamlin added to the DB's we currently have should increase the productivity of our pass defense.

But what it truly does is cause the QB to hold the ball longer as receivers try to get separation.

Hodge, Butler and both Williams are attacking style defenders. Married with our current crop of pass rushers who led the league, the added time the QB has to hold the ball indicates our job one is:

Kill the quarterback.

Too early to tell if this will be successful. But it's apparent we are not standing on last year's sack totals and trying to improve with these players selected.

Cornerback covers WR. Takes away immediate routes and passing lanes.

Front seven rushes.

The additional second the receiver is covered, the close Ware and others are to sacks.

No one works a defense on an island. They all have a hand in sacking the quarterback.

Or did you think the defensive ends and outside linebackers do it by themselves?

In that case, I am rolling my eyes.

In what frame of reference. Ours or theirs?

OK I was surprised you posted something that was not about WRs or how we need some. Thanks for posting at least this once without it.

Please re-read TwoDeep's post because I really don't believe you understand the significance of Dallas drafting Stephen Hodge, Jason Williams, Brandon Williams and Victor Butler to a defense which led all defenses in quarterback pressures.

I have no idea where my writing skills went when I posted a couple of times in this thread.

But here goes.

I believe the team has targeted relentless pass rushers and defensive backs with coverage skills with the idea that better coverage aids in the attack at the passer.

Both work in tandem to accomplish this feat. And with the way the team selected multiple picks in each of those areas, I believe it signals their intent to add to the 59 sacks we had last year as a focal point of the defense.

But what I should have added, but did not, is this also aids in the take-aways by quarterbacks who make bad decisions and throw avoiding the sack.

it seems we have some ball hawks in this group.
