Adam Shefter reports that Jerry didn't think he would have to make the call this early and is still in shock.
I would advise he move quickly. Today's game results could cause even more competition for head coaches:
  • Bill Belichick
    • Buffalo is also rumored to be Florio's silent party that was talking with Belichick. If they lose today, will have to move fast.
    • Falcons are rumored to be recruiting Belichick. If you are Jerry, what makes Dallas more enticing for Belichick?
  • Philadelphia Eagles
    • If Eagles lose today, Philly could be just like Dallas and firing a successful coach quickly. More competition in field. Have to move quickly! This is a high profile spot and good team for a new HC. Also, a small chance that Philly was the silent party talking with Belichick? Doubtful the Cowboys want Sirianni?
  • Pittsburgh Steelers & Mike Tomlin
    • There are rumors that Tomlin is out if he loses today. The game today decides this. So you get another high profile spot open with some existing talent. And you now have to compete with others quickly for Tomlin who will be in high demand. Tomlin is your Andy Reid Part II, similar to after the Eagles fired him.
  • Jim Harbaugh
    • Rumored all over the place. The top College Coach and most important, WITH NFL experience. Michigan offered him 10-year $125 million contract but has not accepted nor will give any firm details on future.
  • Mike Vrabel
    • If you want the "younger Belichick" you will need to move fast before someone else takes him. Rumored with several teams. Lots of experience as Defensive Line Coach which is big demand for Dallas right now.
  • Top Coordinators who we are waiting on their season results. All of these coordinators seem to have someone looking their direction.
    • Ben Johnson, Detroit OC
    • Bobby Slowik, Houston OC
    • Raheem Morris, Rams DC
    • Dave Canales, Bucs OC
    • Mike McDonald, Ravens DC
    • Steve Wilks, 49ers DC
    • Frank Smith, Dolphins OC (available now)
  • Cincinatti Bengals
    • Season over. All of their coordinators are highly valued.
  • Pete Carroll, Dan Quinn & Deion Sanders
    • Just throwing them out there because they are thought of enough that they are on most of the bookie odds.

Me personally, I'm rooting for either Bill Belichick or Mike Tomlin, if he becomes available. Would be happy with Harbaugh too, but I think Belichick and Tomlin provide what current squad is most missing.

I really like Mike McCarthy and he appears to be a good man. But there is no point in doing another Jason Garrett and hoping the team chemistry will change after 8 years. Need someone in who wil be another culture changer and shake things up.

Tomlin, Harbaugh, Carroll would be my top choices.
Since when is tomlins job available I'm pretty sure Mike Tomlin still with the Steelers unless I missed something did I miss a notification that they let Mike Tomlin go if not then can we skip over that nonsense to be just grabbing anybody...

But for sure on my list is Bill Belichick Harbaugh Carroll or vrabel... At least vrabel I know he's the least of all the names on this list was able to do it with a guy like Tannehill with a strong run game and he appreciated defense I mean this is what we're missing here right we're a few pieces with the right philosophy like say draft one of the best running backs in this upcoming draft keep Prescott for at least one more year don't extend him just let him ride out the contract and then let vrabel pick some linebackers in this draft because it's probably all we're lacking and then rebrand the other players on defense into their proper positions and I think we could win with that kind of coach and I think at least three on that list Belichick Harbaugh and vrabel they have that same philosophy... Pete Carroll I'm not sure he he's kind of like Mike McCarthy I mean I would take him because I know he'd hire his a a different offensive coordinator and a defensive coordinator so maybe we get some names there but he's more of a walk around coach isn't he I mean the other guys are more hands on...

Some of it is Mike Tomlin also being the one to not come back. Link Here.

Some of it is just chain reaction from other moves. This is going to be a record year for head coach openings and legends out of a job.

Another reason why I think Jerry should move fast. HC pools like this don't come around often.

If the cowboys job is available the. The cowboys job will be highly desirable regardless of what people say here. If they move on from big Mike it’s probably because they know through back channels they can land a BB, JH or Mike vrabel.

They likely don’t move on from McCarthy without the next move already figured out….yes they’ll have to have a “job search” and honor the Rooney rule but it’ll be just a formality at that point. They aren’t going to move on from Mike without a no brainer upgrade at least on paper already lined up
