Harrison Smith and (let go of Jaylon) a solid mid-vet LB would be perfect and should be affordable.

Would take Pat P as a bridge CB for 2 years if he’s affordable.

We will sign players more likely to bust unless a miracle happens and they reach their ceiling. Then we'll draft some guys while they tell us we got a starter in each round but then they won't play any of them untill last resort.

I expect us to be linked to a bunch of players only to sign bargain type players and then be sold on how good they fit with what we’re trying to do.

Yep, McClay will take a reserve who barely played for a really bad Jets or Jaguars team and make him a millionaire.

Fan Boys will claim it as a really good signing.

Historians will remember how Mackenzy Bernadeau, Benson Mayowa, Darian Thompson, and Maurice Canady were/are all JAGs.

Our only hope is that Jerry continues to feel the clock is ticking and abandons the cheap & fake clever approach to free agency and tries, you know, something crazy, like actually improving the roster.

Instead of signing 10 losers for 9 million, sign one young stud to a nice contract that has proven his value. My pick is Marcus Maye/FS - NY Jets.

If there's one thing we know about the Cowboys front office it's that they are very predictable.

Things we know:
Cowboys hoard compensatory draft picks, which has resulted in the Boys having a projected 10 draft picks in 2021.
We resign roughly 35% of our starter free agents and 30% of our reserves and ST guys
The positions that the front office priorities in free agency tells us exactly the positions we will be prioritizing in the draft(Cooper-Lamb, Brown-Diggs, McCoy and Poe-Gallimore)
We can *create* CAP space and have the *ability* to sign whoever we want if we wanted, but that won't happen as we are in a bottom-half in the NFL CAP situation
Mike Nolan sucks

What you should expect:
The Cowboys again have a few players that might fetch some higher than expected contracts in free agency, those being Dalton, Aldon, Awuzie, and X Woods. They will want to capture those resulting compensatory picks to give them extra ammo in 2022. Those wanting the Leonard Williams of the world(especially at the expense of Dak LMAO) can stop dreaming right now.
If we look at the roster how it stands now, there seems to be major holes at QB, DT, CB, and SAF. Those are my early candidates for positions they will address with the majority of their FA spending and top draft capital.
You should expect to acquire the vast majority of our talent in the following ways: Draft, resigning of our own, trading Day 3 picks either from this season or 2022 when they expect to get more comps, signing players that don't count against the compensatory calculation whether from being cut or after the compensatory period has ended
Good post QC! I think you could add OL in that list of holes.

Hoping for a good draft. I expect nothing notable in fa as usual tbh.

That seems very predictable, if the past is any indication of what to expect in the future. Dak's prospective contract is likely to greatly hamper this C'boys' organization's ability to find noteworthy success in veteran free agency. Defense should rightly be emphasized. The FO should allow their scouts to advise them and act accordingly. Hopefully, they'll listen attentively to Will McClay's suggestions.

We'll have 10 draft picks to serve this team during the draft. Let's hope, those in the war room will choose to act wisely in making their decisions. Ten picks should be enough to serve us well, if a successful draft is destined to be in the cards. Let's hope knowledge and wisdom prevail. ;)

Dallas will receive late round comp picks for the guys leaving, if they get anything. Stephen n Jerry bought low, but fumbled the sell high part on Aldon Smith. Even though it was a 5th rounder it's better than what they'll get now.

Hopefully, the scouting and drafting group take the 4-7th rounds seriously. Cowboys view guys that late as STs players instead of drafting guys who they see starting if they had to for a couple games. You don't draft a developmental CB with a 4th round pick, especially when your defense sucks and you need players in the worse way.

Draft strong all the way through.

There's a fine line between the definition of insanity vs not having a clue what you're doing.

Relying on draft only is why its always about next year around here.

Fans tend to want to build the perfect team with no holes....yet no other team has that.

Dallas does however seem to need superior talent to overcome the awful coaching that has plagued this franchise since Jerry's policy of only Parcells opposites as HC.

Adding a few rookies is never enough, yet its how they roll, and seem fully shocked when nothing changes.

KC drafted Mahomes, Hill, and Kelce. Take those three players away and KC wins nothing. KC added a few decent FA signings but the draft is what got them the ring.

i've given up expecting much from these guys in FA....they always shop at Dollar General and expect to pick up some gems. No, we get crap, exactly what we pay for. So it will all be up to the draft. They better hit a home run on this one.
no, the problem is that they pay for the wrong guys. a few years back they paid for Hardy. very handsomely...didn't work out. then they avoided high priced FA and went for numbers. which is wrong. the way the evaluate defensive players is just plain wrong. 4 guys from last year, none of them made it past mid season and defense improved with guys we already had on the roster....and yet for the same money we paid those 4, all veterans and got gauaranteed after first game, we could have signed Jones....and we saw how the secondary just fell apart....

why can't we evaluate defensive talent? 2 impact players, one left in 15 years and 44 players selected....that's pathetic.

Yea, it would not hurt my feelings by trading draft picks toward 2022. Not All 10 picks will contribute in 2021, see Anae (5th Round pick), of course the coach that kept him off the field is GONE.

given state of the defense. a new DC on the way. we should avoid signing an FA in 2021 outside of filling in the roster. 100% of the focus should be on draft, draft manuvering and defense, defense, defense. I would be happy if we picked 10,11 defensive players in draft.

Dallas can do that if you're ok with another bad season. I don't expect anything from Dallas next year, so I'm ok with it. But this D is too bad to fix with one draft.

Sure, but those "few decent FA signings" are a few more than out team has made in recent history.

Two, three or four contributing players vs the street guys we seem to offer up make all the difference.

I'm all for building through the draft. You almost have to, but don't completely ignore UFA every year and wait for the bargain bin. Hasn't worked.
