What was different about the running game yesterday?

Rams were committed to stop our passing game and consistently only had 6 or 7 guys in the box.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Rams started the game scheming to take away the passing game, and Cowboys made them pay.

Say it louder. I'm not convinced people actually get that despite the fact Moose reported it at last a dozen times and Garrett mentioned it in his PC yesterday.

Steve Dennis actually asked Jason Witten if the DFW media deserve some credit for the win since they were all over the need to run the ball more. He's an idiot, and that may be insulting to idiots.

When teams stick 8 men in the box, we'll pass to beat them. It's funny how that works.

The diff was a COMMITMENT to the run. Murray saw this and gave it his all.
Holes helped created by OL helped, when the 1st run of the game is a 12 yard run backed up by another good run it is easy to keep calling it. As others said Rames played 6 and 7 in a box, should SD load the box and give up the 1 on 1 matchups with Dez and the other WR then take it.

I agree, Key is however to be able to run it effectively when they only have 6 and 7 in the box. Cowboys have not done that well in recent years.

No they haven't. They did Sunday, but we shouldn't put the cart before the horse and not pay attention to what jrumann59 said, because he is dead right.

No doubt the Rams focused on stopping the pass and used 6 and 7 in a box. Dallas used the running game very well. My point is we have faced teams using 6 and 7 in the box and failed to run the ball successfully. Sunday we did, our OL opened big holes there were many runs that Murray was not even touched until he had picked up 5 yards. I'm all in favor of running but you have to have success doing it. If all you are doing is picking up 1 and 2 yards then you are in trouble.

I agreed with you. They have not run it successfully against 6 and 7 men in the box in the recent past. People want to keep running when we are gaining 2 yards per carry. Not me. Move the ball and you have a chance to win. I don't get all caught up in how many passes, how many runs. Move it however you can, and when they invite you to run it like the Rams did. Do it and smile.

I agree. I don't expect Murray to have that many carries per game a lot will depend on how we are running the ball and how the defense we are playing is lining up. Pounding into a brick wall is not a good strategy if teams stack the line we need to attack them down field in the passing game, if they back off the line then we need to run. Key for both is OL, we have the weapons we just need the OL to allow us to use those weapons to their fullest.

We did not run well because we commited to the run. We commited to the run because we were running the ball so well. A combination of good blocking, good running and 6and 7 men in the box allowed us to run successfully from the first drive on. We stayed commited to the run throughout the game because STL never found a way to stop it.

Yep, keep doing it until they show they can stop it. Rams never did and the Cowboys never backed away from the run.

The commitment to the run came during the game as it developed. E always commit to the run, but sometimes it don't work out and we go all aerial. Like I said, Murray saw that the touches were coming his way and he went all out.

The running game was outstanding this past game, and Murray ran smart, he went down when he needed to save his bad self for the season. He could have picked up another 10 yards, but why punish yourself for those. Save it for another day.

The Rams are garbage and we had a good day. Simple.

This is pretty much my take on it too. The week before he averaged 2 yards per carry against a better team. They are who we thought they were.. an under 500 team that apparently has a lot of rebuilding to do. I'm not sure the Chargers are much better but I see them putting up a better fight.
