No team in the history of the NFL over the last 45 years has had the talent at RB the Boys have had. Perkins, Thomas, Hill, Dorset, Walker, Smith; every one of them had HOF talent. I believe that Walker will get in one day; Perkins should. Thomas would have if he had kept his head straight; and Hill to me has always been under rated. Add very good players like Garrison and Newhouse, and older guys like Warren, and the overall quality is really incredible. The only year we did not have at least good quality was the year of Hambone.

My thoughts exactly!

I still think Perkins got robbed by not getting in when he was first eligible. He was selected to the Pro-Bowl 6 times in his 8 seasons and was the 5th all-time in yardage when he retired. The fact that he only played 8 seasons hurts him and that his totals were quickly overshadowed after he retired. Leroy Kelly, Floyd Little, OJ, and Larry Csonka all started to put up big numbers around the time Perkins retired, or shortly afterwards. Then a slew of guys came in in the early 70s and by the time he was eligible his totals weren't as impressive.

The lack of a 1000 yard season was also a drawback but that was due to how Landry used his RBs back then. He didn't have a guy who got 300+ carries but split them up between a couple of players.

Calvin Hill is another guy who was a great RB but made the mistake of jumping to the WFL and lost his momentum. He had some great years for us but not enough to compete with the other guys coming in at that time.

Thomas was such a waste. So much talent and so little common sense.

The problem is that Emmitt and Moose weren't really a tandem as it was all Emmitt running and Moose blocking and receiving, particularly in 1995 when Emmitt had 377 carries and the next highest guy, Sherman Williams, had 48.

Good info though, especially on Hill & Garrison in 1972.

I can definatly see how you might look at it from this perspective, where Emmitt and Moose are concerned.

To me, what Emmitt did was incredible but Moose was there to block on every carry and catch the ball for those tough first downs. I just consider the whole package, which includes lead blocking and Blitz pick up and I just fell like they are as worthy as anybody. One without the other is just not as great as both together, to me.

However, in the end, I'd be happy with any of the combinations mentioned in this thread. All were fine backs IMO.

I love Darly Johnston; he has no chance of making the HOF IMO, but Emmit had his best years by far when Moose was blocking for Emmit... besides the man could catch the ball.

He was way past his prime but still effective.

Chris Warren and Emmitt :)

was just about to post just that... Warren was a good RB in his own right... and of course Emmitt is Emmitt...

Well when Walker & Dorsett were teamed up together against other teams, regardless of the status of the rest of our team or TD's age, trust that teams lined up and played those two differently then they played Jones & Barber! With them we had a guy who was close to being #2 alltime leading NFL rusher and a guy who had he come to the NFL rather than wasting time in the USFL would have probably been a top 5 alltime back himself. And as far as that last part, I've always felt that had Walker played his entire career in the NFL and particularly on one team, that he would have had one of the best chances of anyone of making that rushing record so Emmitt could have never caught it.
