What was that in the sky? SpaceX Falcon 9 launch offers dramatic show over L.A
What was that in the skies above L.A. Friday night that stopped traffic and sparked both alarm and curiosity?
It was the contrail from the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that was scheduled to liftoff from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 5:27 p.m. on Friday, according to the website Spacearchive.info.
Brian Webb, the site’s launch alert editor, says online that, “The rocket’s bright flame should be visible over a wide area. However, since this launch occurs 30 minutes after Vandenberg sunset, it could be impressive at 2 minutes 12 seconds (after launch, or at 5:29 p.m.), when simulations show the exhaust plume will be illuminated at high altitude by the sun.”
