What was the penalty on last play before the FG?

All I heard was the ref say that Seattle declined the penalty. Announcers make a short comment and moved on. Did I just miss it? What was the penalty? McClain's int made it a mute point but that really could have come back to haunt us. What happened?

I was pissed, felt like a phantom flag to allow SEA a chance to tie the game. As Doc said, even though they declined, it stopped the clock. Really just want to know as well tbh. Detroit redux vibes were creeping into my mind...

The earlier penalty against Seattle (hands to the face) stopped the clock also. I don't understand why they didn't restart the clock on that one.

With the Seattle hands to the face penalty, since Dallas accepted the clock stopped and the down was replayed with the yardage marked off.

We didn't lose time there since we got to play the first down again and run the clock anyway.

If it was, then Frederick had 2 holding penalties in the 4th quarter.

I was mistaken. It was Tyron Smith. Same guy that held vs Detroit on a run around left end last year when the Boys were trying to run out the clock.

From ESPN play by play.
) D.Murray left tackle to SEA 13 for 2 yards (R.Sherman). Penalty on DAL-T.Smith, Offensive Holding, declined.

Here's the rule in question:

Section 3 Starting the Game Clock

OFFICIAL NFL PLAYING RULES 16
(f) If the game clock is stopped after a down in which there was a foul by either team, following enforcement or declination of a penalty, the game clock will start as if the foul had not occurred,
except that the clock will start on the snap if:
(1) the foul occurs after the two-minute warning of the first half;
(2) the foul occurs inside the last five minutes of the second half; or
(3) a specific rule prescribes otherwise.

The Cowboys committed the penalty. No conspiracy at play, no subterfuge on the part of the referee. It was Tyron Smith not moving his feet well enough on a stretch play to the left side of the formation, and grabbing outside the shoulder pads. The same thing he did last year against the Lions, which helped cost them the game.

If you want to point at a more egregious issue, it was the Cowboys calling timeout on the same series. That, to me, was mindbogglingly stupid.

At the end, it doesn't matter because they won, and put forth a great effort.

Holding happens on every play. It was an awful call to give Seattle a chance to provide the NFL with a dramatic finish. The NFL is suffering wtih so many off the field issues that the integrity of the game is the only thing left that is sacred.....once/if that ever goes....this league will never be the same. You cannot penalize or try to diminish a tried and true NFL practice. We ran the ball to force Seattle to use their timeouts and make it IMPOSSIBLE for Seattle mount a comeback. The NFL awarded the Seahawks a timeout essentially by calling that penalty. I was livid and immediatley had thoughts about Detroit last year. I am old school. I like to earn it. I would not even want Dallas to get these type of favors from the NFL. Heck, the 1st game of the year against San Franciso...I think Dallas received a lot of calls in the 2nd half to prevent a complete blowout. And I hated it. You get what you EARN!

The clock did not restart after the declined penalty -- was that an error or standard procedure?

I think the clock doesn't restart after a declined penalty on the offense.

Why the clock didn't restart when there was a hands to the face on Seattle before that...I have no idea (my guess is that refs screwed up).

Why was that stupid?

They let the play clock run down to 1 and then they called the timeout. The same amount of time runs off the clock if they had not called a timeout and used a running play than if they call timeout and then go use a running play.

Better off letting the clock run down to 1 and call a timeout. This way you can tell your O-Line and receivers hey, don't move at all because we're not running a play here. I'm going to let the clock run to 1 and call a timeout. Because if you get a false start....that stops the clock.

Better off doing that and then setting up a designed play, go over with the team to not hold because you're trying to wind the clock down.
