What we cannot see yet

Absolutely. However, it starts up front.
fortunately what we've waited for since we talked on the other forum has finally transpired .

we have two defensive tackles that can keep the opposition running game right there up front and not breaking into the second level.

Feels like we've waited half a lifetime for this team to have the personnel to actually stop the run

I got the "mostly". Your original reply was "Talent. Much more important than grit. And it's not close. And we just added a ton of it." You attached that to what I said, which was, "Grit has been missing from this franchise since the Parcells' days. It will be outstanding if the amassed talent and coaching this season's assembled team can be combined with actual, every game, no exception, grit. That would be awesome to say the least."

My comment combined the necessity of talent and grit. Yours did not and inferred talent was pretty much all that a team needs. I disagree. So even though you did add 'mostly' I was curious if you meant 'mostly'. You did. We disagree about the importance of variables needed for success, but I understand clearly where you are coming from. Thanks.
Mostly. I think that's a pretty clear word.

No idea where you got "inferred" from. I've been clear throughout this thread that talent is #1, but you also need coaching/character/instincts, and a myriad of other factors.

I don't think we're that far off.

I'm confused. If they're never the same, how is that not a lessening of talent?

Fingers don't affect lateral agility and burst.
That was my bad I didn't convey that correctly.

Drastic injuries definitely can lessen a player's talent and even end their career.

Minor injuries just lessen their availability and they can come back strong as ever.

You're right about the fingers but if you're a player that needs to catch the ball , snap the ball, spot the ball or throw the ball having all your fingers intact can be a plus

What if it's not hype and optimism, but a careful assessment of the players?
Last time I checked we don’t crown champions until after the season , not before.

That said, not denying it looks to be a good defense with upgrades in talent. Even you’ve stated how good is left to be seen.

We certainly appear to be closer than we’ve been in several years. And why most everyone is looking forward to see how it all unfolds.

But surely we also can understand why some are a little gunshy in predicting more with our history this era. It’s a long season, crap happens.

Which one was it, I have no problem explaining myself.
Okay.

Absolutely. However, posters have taken my thoughts and polarized them. There is no way that any of talent/coaching/grit is enough by itself. Takes all.
