What we REALLY learned from the Giants game

1. We can still be effective against the run without a player like Marcus Spears. Some can argue that it was our best performance against the run all season. Spears is gone unless the contract is cap friendly.

2. Dez Bryant makes everyone on offense better. It's not a coincidence that while Dez has his best receiving game of the year, the Cowboys as a team have the best offensive performance of the year. He makes Austin draw less double teams, and helps Roy become a very, viable #3 WR. It's only a matter of time before Witten starts going again.

3. Demarcus Ware, like I've said in the past, really IS having a down year. I'm not sure if there's a certain injury he's not revealing, but he's clearly not himself. You can bring up all the stats you want, but Ware has not been the same player.

4. Alan Ball is a solid backup safety/4th corner. He clearly had the best game of his career, but can you really count on this guy for the future? One solid game out of nine games? He's a role player, not a starter.

5. Felix sets the tone and Barber closes the game. It's a lot easier when you have a lead like we did. With the exception of the Houston game, this is the ONLY game of the year where we actually had the lead going into the 4th quarter. You can really open up the playbook when this is the case.

6. Buehler needs to be replaced now, soon or in the near future. His kickoffs are lackluster, and he seems to miss a big kick every time we need one. Draft one in the middle to late rounds.

What did you guys learn from the game?

1) that garrett can call a good game plan

It showed the talent this club has. That should be put to rest. BTW, the Giants are still one of the best clubs in the NFC so don't go off on them being as poor team.

Whenever Dallas beats a team its automatically because the team we played was overrated.

:laugh2::laugh2:

I don't know about showing talent, that word doesn't mean anything to me.

To me it showed that what the team really needs is a strong leader and TEAM WORK.

As much help as we probably need on the OL, I still think we are in bigger trouble on defense going into the offseason.

Pick up another OG, maybe an OT, or develop the young guys, and you're okay on the OL.

But defense is still in dire need of a true FS, another CB, youth with size at ILB, and someone at DE who can actually win a 1-1 battle every now and then in the pass rush.

Agreed. Colombo and Davis should still be replaced in the offseason.

We need a playmaking, CONSISTENT safety so badly. I don't care if it's FA or the draft, we need to get one. Sensabaugh will not be back.

Sean Lee regressed because of his injuries during OTA's and training camp. Give him a full offseason and he should be good to replace Brooking next year.

CB is a major need. Newman is solid but injury prone, Jenkins is a hit or miss at this point, and Scandrick will be in a contract year. Not sure if he deserves an extension.

I can see why you feel this way. You left out pass rush as a problem. That's the defenses biggest issue IMO.

Oh, I agree with you 100% on that one, but I get blasted whenever I dare to suggest that DWare is disappointing and not consistent.

As long as we play the 3-4, the pass rush is expected to come from him because he's the megamillionaire man...that won't change.

Others say you don't expect a pass rush from your DE's in the 3-4, but that's bs as well. You have to get a push and pressure from everyone. The DE's don't have to get a pile of sacks, but on that great NYG defense with the great LT, most fans remember that Marshall wasn't just a run stuffing occupier of OTs.

3-4 or 4-3, if blitzing is the only way you can get a pass rush because your star DE or OLB can't win enough battles consistently, then you're in a world of trouble.

Really? Can't see why. He's not had anywhere near the year we've grown accustom to.

The sacks are there, but his impact is nothing compared to previous seasons. He'd have games without sacks, but he'd seldom have a game without multiple pressures and simply being a major factor.

This is our most significant problem. Ratliff, Ware and Spencer need to recapture their late 2009 form. And they need to do it by the time we get to Indy.

I think Spears will stay if a deal can be worked out that is "money friendly" to both sides. Spears is a good guy to have in the locker room as well, hopefully they can come up with a deal that both parties can accept. Now if Spears is looking for some type of mega-deal then he will have to move on to another venue.

Dez is going to be special if he remains healthy and can stay clear of any off the field transgressions. I also think that Marty B. may be another option to take a look at as the season progresses. Provided Marty B. can remain focused, I think he offers a better down the field threat than Witten. Keep Witten closer to the line of scrimmage as a safety valve.

3. Demarcus Ware, like I've said in the past, really IS having a down year. I'm not sure if there's a certain injury he's not revealing, but he's clearly not himself. You can bring up all the stats you want, but Ware has not been the same player.

I think that it is hard to say what is going on with Ware. It is very possible that part of the problem with Ware is his supporting cast. Of the front seven, who really scares you besides Ware? No other front seven player has had a very good year up to this point in my estimation.

4. Alan Ball is a solid backup safety/4th corner. He clearly had the best game of his career, but can you really count on this guy for the future? One solid game out of nine games? He's a role player, not a starter.

I agree, Alan Ball is what he is and a better option has to be found.

True, although after "Tie-Gate" I wouldn't mind seeing more of Choice as the season goes on.

I think Buehler has until Thanksgiving to show that he can put it all together.

What did you guys learn from the game?

That Wade the head coach was a bigger "Dufus" than I previously thought.
