I know some of the board wants to take a guard, running back or middle linebacker in the first but the reason that you don’t is the 5th year option. You use the 5th year option on players that play elite positions like quarterback, left tackle, edge rusher, wide receiver, defensive tackle or cornerback. The best example is LVE. The guy was an all pro as a rookie and had been solid but injury prone after that. The Cowboys refused the 5th year option because he was an off ball linebacker. If he was a pass rusher I think the Cowboys would have picked up the option. In a way it reminded me of Byron Jones who an insider thought he was a cut candidate before his break out season. The 5th year option was a home run for the Cowboys to use on Byron.

They lost vs the 49ers due to struggles on offense.

Once Pollard was out, they were doomed.

Dak wins when the run offense and run defense are good. In the 2021 season playoff loss both of those failed. In the 2022 season playoff loss the run defense was good but the run offense failed.

Coaching was the biggest problem for the run offense. The team said that the Commodes DL moved too much before he snap in that last game. That's a coaching/scheme problem.

I think Philbin is good at coaching players individually but not good from a run blocking scheme perspective. Houck and Columbo had the same issue. Callahan was the master OL coach of both scheme and individual player coaching.

Sadly for Zeke, I think bargin contract RB Ronald Jones is an upgrade.

This draft has many good RBs.

My biggest concern is DT.
-Gallimore is terrible.
- Watkins was limited but very reliable.
- Hankins is an injury concern to me.
- Bohanna was actually good in some games but was toast when he played after the knee injury.
- Odighi was best when playing next to Hankins.
Your first two sentences say it all. That was what changed the Cowboys offense and Niners defense, Pollard was their greatest concern, not Prescott or Lamb or Schultz.

The Niners looked at Pollard like their Samuel. Do not let this guy get past the line. Once he was out, they could just play their base defense because Lamb was the only WR they were concerned about.

They already added Cooks and it looks like they want to add another high level receiver and an upgrade over Zeke at RB. Could also address TE with a high pick.

Yeah Mahomes couldnt avoid throwing the ball directly into the chest of defenders.
Dallas was tied with the 9ers up to the point right before the 4th quarter. Those picks didn't effect the results.

The reason Dallas lost was they lost the ground game, and didn't have enough horses to overcome with CeeDee alone. They were facing the best defense in the league with no running game and one WR.

This is what I mean when I say your myopia prevents you from seeing and understanding the game.

Or....

Professional football is a foreign language to you.

Dak's win rate is over 90% when:
Cowboys rush for over 100 yards.
&
Opponent rushes for less than 140 yards.

It is over 95% if their rushing average is 4.5 ypc or better.

You have to be slow.

This just in. Interceptions on your own side of the field and in the red zone dont AFFECT the outcome of football games

In no particular order:

-Struggled to replace Anthony Brown after he went down for the season. Joseph was a disaster, Wright wasn't much better. Team was forced to move Bland to the outside. Believe all 5 of his interceptions came in the slot.

-Just like on defense, team failed to replace Steele's production in the run game after he was lost for the season. Tyron just wasn't as good in that area and he lacked the cohesion playing next to Zach Martin. Both our backs struggled after Steele went down.

-Pass rush pretty much disappeared when Quinn adjusted his scheme to help the run defense. Took away all those twists/stunts that opened up huge running lanes.

-Run defense really struggled when both Lve and Hankins missed time late in the season.

-Dak led the league in interceptions forcing too many passes into tight coverages or not being on the same page with his receivers.

-Place kicker got the yips in the season finale and it carried over into the playoffs

What needs to be accomplished, in no particular order:

  • Need a starting caliber outside corner. Not only in case of injury, but you need as many capable corners as possible in this pass first league.
  • Must fix the run game, Steele returning will help, but still have to figure out left guard. Believe Tyron should be the swing tackle.
  • Just like corner, you can never have enough pass rushers in today's game. Sam Williams needs to take the next step this season
  • Cannot rely on either Lve/Hankins to hold up for the entire season, have to add quality depth to both areas. Could use post draft fa
  • Dak has never been a turnover machine, he needs better receiving talent then Noah Brown, post injury Gallup.
  • Clearly the team needs a new kicker, it's a shame as Maher was so good until the final game of the season.
Its a real question, and should be asked.
IMHO it was an entire meltdown, Dak led the way and players started to quit or burn out.
It was a collapse involving everyone, coaches to blame as well.
