I have always been one to do things my way regardless of what everyone else does or what other people think because life is too short to let others define your happiness and enjoyment.

There have been many times that I went against the norm in doing things, sometimes many years in advance, only to later have them become popular among the masses.

The reactions and ragging I received before then though never bothered me, but I do admit to occasionally reminding friends of mine how they used to laugh at me for doing things they are doing now.

What are some things you were ahead of the curve on?

.... Do not include things that you purchased, visited, listened to, watched, etc.

.... I am talking about actual everyone-could-have-done-it life choices and decisions!

I have many things I did long before most people did them, but I will start with these ..

I disconnected my landline back in the 1990s and only used a cell phone. Friends thought I was crazy. Companies demanded a home line so I gave them random numbers or the local "What time is it?" phone number. To me, it just made sense since my cell phone was always with me. Why would I want to pay for a phone line that I was only near (and awake) for a few hours each day?

I "cut the cord" back around 2002. I had satellite TV for years and realized looking back over the previous year the only thing I watched on it was Cowboys games.

Pirating. I was DLing songs with dial-up from the early days of Napster and newsgroups. Was an earlier adopter of XBMC on XBOX and BitTorrent. I jail-broke / rooted amount every phone I've had as well as my Apple TV and an currently enjoying watching anything I want on KODI via Nvidia Shield.

Maybe not ahead of the curve, but try to keep up with the scene.

The internet. One night Tipper and I were rocking out to AC/DC, Black Sabbath and ZZ Top, rolling doobies had my kids records on, and I told her my idea of connecting all the people in the world and evidently she told Al. I really wasn't going forward with it feeling humans would abuse it. But, woot, there it is.

I also had the idea for Toilet Bowl Jell-O because that is such a boring part of the home and the sound of peeing on Jell-O is really cool. But that idea has not taken hold yet but I am hopeful because I've got a 20 minute infomercial on it ready to go.

Financials.

Monitor credit cards and credit card debt closely. Pay cash whenever you can. Take advantage of sales and other discounts.

I was doing this back in the 80's.

And the latest is debit cards. Very dangerous things, and I'm seeing the abuse and the problems w/ them everywhere. Almost impossible to control spending while using them.

The problem is, you were the last person to upgrade from the flip-phone to a smartphone!

Actually, that's not true. I saw these two ladies eating at a restaurant the other day. One of them still had a flip-phone.

As for cutting the cord for TV. Well, I did it as soon as I was divorced. I couldn't before then because the wife and kids watched TV.

When my current GF and her daughter moved in. I didn't even make it an option as my GF doesn't watch much TV except Globo (I can stream that) and the daughter (after using it) way prefers streaming because she can watch all she wants when she wants and without commercials

I got in early on the Internet revolution. I joined way back when you had to have a device that wasn't a computer to actually get on. (can't recall but it was like the precursor to Prodigy) Then CompuServ and AOL. When AOL first started to pick up steam, that's when I switched to just a straight Internet provider (FlashNet) Right after I subscribed to them, I noticed they were hiring and that was my first technical job too.

The idea of finding ways to cut calories from every meal, no matter where you eat. Also asking for my sides seperate from my meal. Also drinking only water or mineral water.

For example, going to a fast food chain and ask them to remove mayo (because it’s always an auto include for some reason)

Or

Going to a restaurant and if you have a meal that has sauce, like wings asking for the wing sauce on the side so you can dip the wings or use as much or little as you want.

Cowboys fandom. I’ve been around a few years and have always been glass half full about the Cowboys since day 1. I’ve found that is the best way to be. No one seems to be like that back then or now..

I have been putting potato chips on sandwhiches since the 2nd grade and everyone thought it was weird. Now, I see/hear others doing the same
