And what do the Boys need to work on for the next game?

Work on: Penalties #1
Protecting Romo

Players who were unimpressive:
Felix Jones (two average returns, a drop, and injured again?)
Doug Free - was struggling

Some might think this is harsh...but I bring him up ONLY because the expectations are high. There is a list out that indicates he will be the best OL in the NFL 3 years from now. Which is why I am nominating Tyron Smith. I know he was going against one of the best. I know he is 21. But he was beat physically, mentally. He was beat with speed...sometimes with power. For me...he had an unexpectantly bad game.

I don't see how you can say he was beaten mentally. It was all physical. He did a pretty decent job late in the game when they really needed the line to hold up.

My pick for underwhelming is Phil Costa. He probably should have been put on PUP a month ago so they could have gotten a veteren in here during the preseason, but it seems like Cook was a good find.

He played in camp, so PUP was not an option.

how can I say mentally? how many pre-snap penalties did he have? How many plays did JPP set him up when Smith was looking for power...and JPP gave him speed. When Smith was waiting for an inside move...and JPP faked inside and came outside. Listen, JPP might be the BEST in the business, so Smith can only get better....but make no mistake about it...Smith got worked last night. Im not down on him...but call a spade a spade...he got worked!

Yeah, he got worked physically. When Smith makes an adjustment for a power rush and then gets beat with speed, that's physical imo, not mental. Mental is when you are not in the correct technique, or lose heart, and I don't think that's what happened. False starts are also physical. He just needs to improve his ability to keep from physically reacting before the ball is snapped.

The play didn't end up counting due to a holding penalty on Witten, but Murray runs for the first then gets down inbounds in order to kill the clock. Great heads up play, so many times small things like that are overlooked. I can' wait to see him get better as the season and his career progresses.

After all the preseason hype, I thought Beasley was going to have 10 receptions for 200 yards and 4 TDs last night, but it looks like he didn't have any receptions.

For srsly though, I'd have to go back and look at Bernadeau. I didn't get a warm fuzzy from him, but maybe I'm being too harsh.

We won...so need for us to go back and forth all day...so we will agree to disagree...I do not consider pre-snap penalties to be physical.

Um, no. That would be Ware. JPP had a grand total of 3 tackles and one assist last night. He did give Tyron fits last night, no doubt. But the "best in the business" makes in impact in a game like last night's. JPP did not (against a guy making his first NFL start at LT) and Ware did.

Don't get me wrong, JPP is a beast. But best in the business? Sorry but, no.

Besides Doug Free?

I was pleased with everything but the sloppy penalties and lack of respect for the playclock issues.

My problem with Ware is that he OFTEN runs up the field and takes himself out of the play...not even making the OL work. JPP showed MULTIPLE moves last night. Fake inside and go outside...fake outside and come inside. Power, speed...pursuit. I would not trade DeMarcus Ware for anybody...but Charles Haley has been trying to get DeMarcus to diversify his pass rush..learn how to set OL up. I am telling you JPP had Tyron on skates all night.

To be fair he was wide open on the pass attempt to Otree in the end zone that was knocked down. Romo didn't see him, but Beasley did his job. Had Romo not have to play Houdini (again) on that play, I'm certain that he would have seen that Beasley clearly beat his guy.

No doubt that Ware is the best in the business but JPP made a LOT of impact in games last year and i'm sure he will this year as well. He may have not done it last night to the level as he did last year but there is no question he IS an "impact" player.

He absolutey did. No doubt about it. And, still came away with only three solo tackles.

The fact remains they moved JPP around the defensive formation all night to help him try and make plays. He ended up with 3 tackles and an assist. That's a fact. What's even more impressive about Ware is the fact that he doesn't use the same number of moves as a guy like JPP and he's STILL more effective. Best is the business. If he had more moves (or used them) he would probably be even better (which is hard to imagine). The fact remains Ware is still the better player. So the "JPP may be the best in the game" mindset is flawed. He's not. He's top five. Behind Demarcus Ware. Ware had two sacks, two tackles for loss and a solo tackle. Almost double JPPs production. In a huge game for both teams Ware showed up like a man and actually influenced the outcome. JPP? Tackled the RB for a loss and that's about it as far as impact plays. Those "MULTIPLE" moves, last night, amounted to squat.

Just sayin'.

Of course he his. He's not the best in the business. Period. That was my point.

No matter how we try to spin it, Tyron got worked pretty well last night. Sure JPP is good, but he's also a young guy like Tyron, its not like hes some vet that taught Tyron a lesson. Tyron will be seeing this guy for the next decade, and I expect alot more from Tyron than I saw last night.

I have to wonder out of Jenkins, Felix, or Spencer....which one would I give a long term contract to if I had a gun to my head....terrible for us that none of them deserve it at this point.

The offensive line has to stop getting flags thrown every other play- not impressed.

IF you had give a long term contract to ANY of those 3...the answer is simple. Felix is a backup. Period. Jenkins has ALREADY been replaced on the roster. You do not have 3 franchise CBs...not possible in the salary cap era. We are paying Carr. We are paying Scandrick. We are going to pay Claiborne. Jenkins is done. Spencer is the ONLY of the 3 that is a starter. And he is a good player. So really is no dilema.
