What will be the excuse?

I mentioned in another thread about how much of the 90's Cowboys credit went to the infamous 'line' when someone felt like denigrating Aikman and Smith.

Can anyone credit the line this time around? The Running backs? The receivers? We'll hear it all. Romo is only good because... <insert excuse here>.

We'll hear plenty of opinions as things progress, from adoration to blind hate as to why the Cowboys turned things around. Over on the Giants forum, they're saying Romo is the beneficiary of 'Parcells' system', whatever that is.

I'm also aware, though the circumstances might be different, that we might be seeing a Ben Rothlisberger story line played out again. I hope not. I don't think so.

Parcells has put together the best team the Cowboys has seen since Jones put his strangle hold on all matters of decision making, and I don't think it's simply chance.

It might be one of those rare things, like the team of the 90's where an incredible amount of talent comes together in one place and does something great. Separately, they might not have all been able to carry a team, but together they were an incredible team.

It was extremely fortunate that such a collection of talent was available and brought together, from coaches to players, and we might be seeing that again. Good talent evaluation, patience and the right pieces coming together at the right time, with just the right players elevating the game of those around them.

We already see the effect one player change has had on a team that was full of talent. The receivers were just as good before Romo was inserted. So were Marion and Barber. So was the defense. Are they great because of him? Is he because of them?

I think all it really goes to show is that a team requires people who compliment each other, from the coaches on down.

So what excuses do you think we'll hear?

Well the Giants will have five of them to look at. Let's see what they can do with it. To me, Dec 3rd is the biggest game of the season and I can't wait for it.

That's what we said about the Carolina game and the Indy game too. We can lose the Giants game and still make it to the playoffs. I want to win this game, but it isn't a live or die scenario.

I don't think it'll end the season, it's big for me because I hate the Giants more than any other team. Losing to them is worse than losing ot the 'Skins or the Eagles.

I've already heard the excuse from Skins fans that he's only good because he has tons of time to stand in the pocket and our O-Line does a great job blocking for him. If I remember correctly this is the same O-Line that was allowing Bledsoe to get destroyed several times a game. And these are the same Skins fans that called our O-Line the revolving door just a few weeks ago. I never thought I'd actually hear that excuse.

He posted up until about about week after the Commanders game. Since then, no sign. Coincidence?

He's probably changed screen names and is posting with a Romo avatar. :laugh2:

After reading the other fans' message boards it seems like the most common are 1) he has a lot of time in the pocket, and 2) he is surrounded by talent.

Number one sounds like the O'line excuse again... they should watch earlier game tape and see it's the same one that couldn't help Bledsoe.

Number two is reasonable in that, like I said earlier, everyone compliments each other. But they were there before Romo and it didn't seem to help an old pro like Bledsoe.

Yep, you're entirely right.

The funny part is, five weeks ago, these same weapons were all overrated.

Oh, and at the time, Patrick Crayton wasn't even considered a weapon.

It reminds me of the Oline-made-Emmitt arguments.

Those same linemen were scrubs before Emmitt arrived. Suddenly, they're heading to Hawaii every year.

A similar trend seems to be occurring this year.

All of the excuses are seemingly made because people continuously forget that football is a team game. You're never going to win a SB without a very good team.

A critical (probably the most) component to the team that wins a championship is the QB. If you don't have a very good one, your chances are slim. And the latter type of QB knows how to maximize his weapons. He knows how to get rid of the ball quick and to the open man. He knows how to limit his mistakes. He can also step up and make a play when things don't go right. He's a leader. All of these positives apply to Romo.

Another point is that Romo plays a lot from the shotgun. That means the defense already knows its 90% pass. Yet, he still makes plays. That's another mark of a good QB.

You can't say he's got a great team around him and then just say his weapons are making plays for him. You still have to scan the field, read the defense, and still get the ball to the receiver in order for the play to happen. You can't have your cake and eat it to.

Not to mention Parcells was past his time and had no future, and Zimmer was getting roasted along with the D.:lmao:

while its true we could still make the playoffs, the Giants game is the biggest game of the season for a few reasons

1) gives us a chance to take total control of the NFC East...we wouldnt need any help to win the division

2) the Giants have owned us the last two times we've played, especially the 6quarters that Bledsoe played against them in the last two games...their defense has been more physical than ours and we've committed alot of turnovers

3) the Giants are reeling...if we can go up there and win convincingly we could ruin their season

4) you have to win on the road vs good teams...assuming we do make the playoffs we arnt getting homefield advantage (in all liklihood, and most likely we need to win out just to get a 1st rd bye)...
