I mentioned in another thread about how much of the 90's Cowboys credit went to the infamous 'line' when someone felt like denigrating Aikman and Smith.
Can anyone credit the line this time around? The Running backs? The receivers? We'll hear it all. Romo is only good because... <insert excuse here>.
We'll hear plenty of opinions as things progress, from adoration to blind hate as to why the Cowboys turned things around. Over on the Giants forum, they're saying Romo is the beneficiary of 'Parcells' system', whatever that is.
I'm also aware, though the circumstances might be different, that we might be seeing a Ben Rothlisberger story line played out again. I hope not. I don't think so.
Parcells has put together the best team the Cowboys has seen since Jones put his strangle hold on all matters of decision making, and I don't think it's simply chance.
It might be one of those rare things, like the team of the 90's where an incredible amount of talent comes together in one place and does something great. Separately, they might not have all been able to carry a team, but together they were an incredible team.
It was extremely fortunate that such a collection of talent was available and brought together, from coaches to players, and we might be seeing that again. Good talent evaluation, patience and the right pieces coming together at the right time, with just the right players elevating the game of those around them.
We already see the effect one player change has had on a team that was full of talent. The receivers were just as good before Romo was inserted. So were Marion and Barber. So was the defense. Are they great because of him? Is he because of them?
I think all it really goes to show is that a team requires people who compliment each other, from the coaches on down.
So what excuses do you think we'll hear?
