my wife asked me a question tonight after watching that mammoth punt by mcbriar that i have to admit i don't know the answer...

she asked "what would happen if mat kicked one of his punts through the fg posts?"

what would happen? i know if a kickoff goes through the uprights it is nothing but a touchback. happens all the time.

great question i thought.

Well, it would be a touchback, but if for some reason he dropped the ball on the ground first and then punted it on the rebound it would be 3-points: the infamous drop-kick.

Points can only be scored on dropkicks or kicks with a holder, I believe.
