In most of the draft threads I've created or participated in, I've been looking at them from the standpoint of what I would do, because that's fun. But I thought I would do one based on what I think this front office will do. Again, this is not what I would do.

No. 12 WR Matthew Golden, Texas
Why? Stephen has said one of the things we want to find is an explosive No. 2 receiver. We're not liable to find one in free agency at this point and we're only going to be willing to trade a third-day pick for one, like we did for Cooks. It's likely No. 2 receiver is No. 1 on our shopping list.

No. 44 CB Maxwell Hairston, Kentucky
Why? Although Dallas traded for Kairr Elam, it lost Jourdan Lewis in free agency and doesn't know how much of the season Diggs is going to miss. This also allows them to cut Diggs next year and pay Bland instead while having a cheap second corner on the roster.

No. 76 RB D.J. Giddens, Kansas State
Why? It wouldn't surprise me if the Joneses like their RB room (like last year) after picking up two veterans, but this may be a coaches' pick since we have the Jayhawks' former OL coach.

It gets harder to think like the Joneses on the third day because that's more of a time when it's really about McClay and the scouts and what the coaches say they need. Usually, we take players we had rated higher than where we took them or we reach for players who fit what the coaches like. I would bet that we'd get a DT with one of the picks, on OT who we'll convert to guard, two LBs for at least depth purposes and another CB. That's five out of seven picks. so I'll throw another DT and a DE into the mix. I'd take a second RB, but I'll be surprised if Dallas does. I think QB is out because of today's trade.

No. 149 LB Que Robinson, Alabama

No. 171 DT Jamaree Caldwell, Oregon

No. 174 G Luke Kandra, Cincinnati

No. 204 CB Alijah Huzzie, North Carolina

No. 211 DT Tonka Hemingway, South Carolina

No. 239 DE Jah Joyner, Minnesota

No. 247 LB Teddye Buchanan, Cal

That comment came off as more they wouldn’t be opposed to taking one if they fell into their lap and was good value. Nothing about that comment would indicate to me they were willing or contemplating over drafting or reaching for someone who will most likely be limited to slot receiver!

They have reached for need before, and could have Golden valued in the mid-teen range as some sites do.

Correction: I have us still with pick No. 171. We don't have that pick. We have 217. So no Jamaree Caldwell.

Thinking about it, it would be like the Joneses to not pick a DT in this DT-heavy draft until the seventh round.

Most have him mid 20s I think that’s his ceiling.
I think he’s going to be limited to the slot at this level. They like to play CD from that position. They just spent 2 seasons hamstrung trying to play Cooks outside when he wasn’t capable of doing so at this stage of his career. Why would they want to hamstrung themselves with a rookie 1st round pick with just average college production at 12?

I've seen him as high as 14-16. The consensus big board on The Athletic has him at 19 and behind only McMillan among receivers.

Again, I'm not saying he's who I want. I'm saying Dallas often goes into drafts with a player in mind to take in the first despite who is available. They did that with Tyler Smith. They did that with Mazi. I think explosive No. 2 receiver is what they have in mind this year.

Frankly, if I wanted him, it would only be with a trade down.

They graded Smith as a guard. They picked him right around the spot he was being valued graded as a guard.
They picked Mazi right around where he was being graded.
There were people here pounding the table to take Mazi with that pick.

The only draft boards I’ve noticed having him that high are projecting need or have Treveyon Henderson going top 10!
