What would the team look like next year if Dak's contract isn't extended/restructured?

With Dak having such a large cap hit next year, what would the team look like if he's not extended/ his contract restructured? Would they be able to extend CeeDee, Micah, etc.? Could they even field a competitive team? I'm not a cap guy so I'm just curious what would happen. If they really choose to move on then I'd love to see Lance for a year but I don't see how that happens with Dak making so much money. Surely they wouldn't actually let him be the backup unless he continues to play like he did Sunday. We all know he'll show out against some mediocre teams and then implode if they even make the playoffs. What a terrible spot to be in. We're going to waste CeeDee and Micah's primes just like so many other players who have come through this organization since 1995.

Yes.

Zach Martin has a 18mil base salary. That will be restructured/extended.
Lamb will be on his 5th year option of 17.9mil. New deal = lower cap hit in 2024
Diggs base salary will be 11mil, can be restructured.
Cooks can be cut if he fails to click this year. +6mil cap saved.

ETC.

The team doesn't build in FA, just the draft. They can "keep their" own without re-signing Dak.

We take the cap hit, and move on, take the chances with Lance.
Or extend Dak and still have the same issues for 5 more years. and still have the cap hit.
Or take the $59 million cap hit and let him play out the contract. Meanwhile grooming Lance.

No matter what there will be a huge cap problem with him or without him.

The other possibly to what I just posted.

Extend him, but have a trade clause, as well write it so the cap hit is not back loaded. Where they can get out of it after 2 years. Even if they bench him, and they start Lance.
As well, they will have the issue of Trey's 5th year option with big money.

A couple things to remember:

A Dak extension not only lowers his cap hit, remember the cap will also go up in future years. The cost to keep him around (or get rid of him if it comes to that, but there has to be a no-trade clause taken out) is far more manageable than people think.

They other possibility, trade Trey Lance for some high draft picks. To move up for Caleb. Then have a QB on a rookie deal. And do one of the options in my 1st post with Dak.

If they go into rebuild mode I think there's a decent chance Martin retires. He'll probably play out next year since he got that extension but I think he's done after that. This is almost certainly Tyron's last year.

If Trey Lance shows something to the Cowboys they need to tear up his contract and sign him to something more cap friendly. That 5th year option is going to be really steep for an unknown commodity.

In my opinion the way they set up his deal was to redo it in 2024. 18 mil base is something they would never leave untouched unless it was a player on Stephen's **** list like Dez.
He's getting into his mid 30's but still playing at a high level.
I think Martin will play as long as the big checks keep coming but that's jmo.

I see no reason whatsoever to extend him regardless of the cap. He has shown, time and time again, that he can't get a win against the better teams in the league.

I would like to see Lance at least get some playing time this year. Dak should be given the opportunity to seek a trade if he would like in the off-season. If he doesn't, cut him as a June 1st cut to make the hit more bearable and move on. Lance either shows why he was the #3 pick or we'll suck terribly and have a shot at a QB in the draft.

I am certainly willing to roll the dice and find out. Current HC and QB are the road to nowhere.

Reading all these posts has given me a mental image of this site in the (near) future. About two weeks of joy and elation followed by months/years of 'this new guy is a bum and has to go'.
