What would you do as a coach to improve the running game?

If you could implement a change or two going forward, what would you do to improve our lethargic running game?

For me, I'm doing everything I can to make sure the defense doesn't know when Pollard is getting it and where he's going. More misdirection. Designed rollouts to move the pocket. I would spread that defense out a little and run Dak just enough that they have to consider it.

But, I'd probably get Dak killed and certainly would not do any better at play calling.

What would you do? And do you do it this week? Or wait until the playoffs?

I would use a WR or TE as RBs in the backfield. I could pitch to them and let them run outside. I could hit them in the flat. I could motion them out. I could run them up the gut since the defense will look to bolster the edges.

improve OL blocking. see why the blocks are failing and the RBs are getting hit in the backfield or at LOS. we have to be better in blocking. also would run to the outside a few times and force the DL men to chase the RB..helps slow them down over time.

The run blocking is just flat out terrible right now. I have little explanation why, but I would be interested to see a breakdown by an NFL offensive line mind as to where things are going wrong.

Pollard isn't massively explosive anymore, but the blocking is just not good enough either.

the new OL coach changed blocking scheme. so its not working. I think we are moved to more of a zone blocking scheme and with our OL men, we just need to man up and get our hands on the guy in front of them and just drive them back.

Scheme and play calling are bad. You can address both 7 days a week.

Here we are at week 17 and still talking about fixing the run. SMH.

as ive been saying for years

if you cant block then cut block....one good cut block will have the defenders hindpotts overtop of his head and he'll hesistate to jump quick off the line

Works on linebackers...

Simplify the blocking scheme. Reduce the number of pulling linemen to one. More quick hitting runs as opposed to all the delays & draws. Line up and run down hill with 12 personnel. Establish a punishing down hill run game and watch the playaction pass open up.

it works on everyone

ive been a defensive tackle before and in practice my center decided to bust out the cut block which we usually werent allowed to in practice and if i wouldve dodo'd while i got cut block it wouldve went right into my dreadlocks

i was hesitant off the snap the rest of practice

It was clicking for a while, but maybe passes to the backs out in the flat. Seems like other teams are pinning their ears back
'cause they know we are running.
