What would you do as a coach to improve the running game?

Need to stop the obvious runs on 1st down. Throw the ball on 1st! Use the run after they're forced to back off the line.
I think the majority of plays they don’t run for a stone

Put them in a power I with a FB and let it rip.
Yeah, but every time he’s in there they know it’s a run play. They have to design plays with him in there that don’t involve the run.

I am not sure there is much they can do. Pollard is running hard. Some of his runs against the Lions were him alone. The blocking is awful. Maybe it is the new coach and scheme but that isn't something that can be fixed with 1 game left in the season. They also need better blocking from their TEs and WRs on the outside runs. This team does not excel at blocking on the move either.

If you could implement a change or two going forward, what would you do to improve our lethargic running game?

For me, I'm doing everything I can to make sure the defense doesn't know when Pollard is getting it and where he's going. More misdirection. Designed rollouts to move the pocket. I would spread that defense out a little and run Dak just enough that they have to consider it.

But, I'd probably get Dak killed and certainly would not do any better at play calling.

What would you do? And do you do it this week? Or wait until the playoffs?
Sign/draft a starting quality RB.
Start drafting some hosses for the OL. No more ballet dancers, get some guys who eat dirt and spit at grizzly bears.

The run blocking is just flat out terrible right now. I have little explanation why, but I would be interested to see a breakdown by an NFL offensive line mind as to where things are going wrong.

Pollard isn't massively explosive anymore, but the blocking is just not good enough either.
Simple. Lack of talent at OL. They're just not very good. Martin is aging and no longer dominant, Tyron isn't bad when he can play. So, you have exactly one good OL in Tyler. Just need to reboot. You'll never have a good OL filled w/ JAGs. Must get talent.

I fail to see a continuous run to excuses at this point. It is also not a non-stop blame it on the Jones family now. Let 'em live and fail on their own merits now...and leave the drum of failure instead of seeing how it plays out. The Cowboys know fully what they have. That no where depends on the weekly excuse and complaint of the day.

To listen to the two sentence solve all problems group it's just all futile. Sorry to that group, one thinks he can explain away all and returned to one's own view in two sentences. Get a life of one's own or just allow fans who are just trying to show respect, sacrifice, and faith.

Lord, Jerry and the Cowboys need your assistance for their many sacrifices and showing you heart...amen, or shalom.
Was this a full prayer to Jerry and Family? LOL

I don’t know brother, they’re sitting on a couple billion, I think they are more than capable of taking care of themselves. ;)

I don't understand this at all. He is fine. Emmitt Smith in his prime wouldn't gain any yards getting hit at or behind the LOS. No back would.
I agree. Hercules and Samson would struggle.

With good blocking, play design, and situational play call, Pollard is good enough to have a really nice season.
We struggle on all three fronts. The effects are not just additive. In this case 1+1+1> 3.

Defenses lay in wait against our run game.

Polly is not a chain mover. Need a chain mover to split carries w/ him. And better OL's.

Probably get rid of Dak. If we had a better QB it would instantly improve our run game. Also he would be able to hand off better. See last week's hand off to the FB for evidence.

Isn't this what they do, now?

March into Jerry's office earlier this year and tell him a need a real RB.

if we keep pollard:
- sign a very good center in the offseason
- sign a bruiser at running back

This season:
call more zone blocking stretch runs for pollard. the guy is no zecke bruiser up the middle.

Our line splits are horrible....have been ever since Callahan left. It's the little details that make all the difference. Also....Steele is killings us. Only takes one guy to breakdown for the entire show come to a halt. Giving him that contract was jumping the gun....

Pick up Zeke next week and stop being afraid to use Luepke...and not just in short yardage. Run twice if needed on 3rd and 2....Corky calls pass 100% of the time.
