Greg Ellis & either the 4th rd. pick from Detriot, or the 3rd rd. pick from Cleveland we gathered in trades during this year's draft.
Of course the trade would be contigent that JJ speak with Taylor to make sure the talk of playing for just one more year was a bargaining chip. It would be too costly to give that much up for a player who is planning retirement after the season.
If we could sign him to a 3-4 yr. contract, it would automatically put our defense at another level. The guy is even more of an impact player than DWare, and I love DWare. His age, like that of TO, should have no bearing on signing him. He keeps himself in incredible shape, and loves the game of football. I'll bet Phillips could even get him to add another 10 lbs. or so to his frame. He obviously would be playing at the strong 'backer position, and would have to wrestle TEs.
For those concerned about whether Taylor can play in the 3-4, he's been playing in it for the last 2-3 yrs. In that span, he's had double-digit sack totals each season, for a total of 36 1/2! Ellis has had 25 sacks during that same span. Taylor & Ware would compliment each other like no other Dallas sack duo since Harvey Martin and Randy White.
The Giants showed the winning formula for taking out teams like the Patriots--Have an excellent pass rusher at every Dline position. We don't have that due in part to having a 3-4 alignment, but we can get immense pressure from both sides with Ware & Taylor. With Tank Johnson looking better all the time, we might also have a PR presence up the middle, as well.
With an even better pass rush, the rookies in our secondary will have a chance to make plays early, boosting thier confidence. It sure would look nice with TNew on one side, Pacman on the other, and Henry or Jenkins manning the slot. For that matter, Henry is actually big enough to man either safety spot if he had to. Either way, bringing Taylor in, along with having Pacman to improve the secondary, we would have the defensive muscle needed to take it all the way this year!
