What's changed since the preseason game with the Saints?

Remember our preseason game with the Saints?
I do, and I imagine Reggie Bush does too. He got owned by DWare.
In fact, the whole game looked like a pro-team playing a college team.

So my question is...what has changed that the Saints will look so much better against us this time?

It is the regular season. It is an entirely different ballgame. Heck, Bledsoe looked sharper than I'd ever seen him in that game.

Teams evolve and blend in together. A small example, just to point out. The season where we made the playoffs with quincy carter..... iirc. we beat the panthers badly, and then we got owned on the 1st week of playoffs.

I am not saying that will happen here as well. I am justsaying that both teams are different from that pre season game

1) They are confident and will play with confidence (Winning breeds confidence, confidnece breeds winning) . 2)They have developed chemistry as a team. These are two very dangerous things to face against a team with something to prove.

They are playing much better now.

Colston also emerged for them, but of course he's gimpy now.

Bush is also getting acclimated to the league.

This is a good post and one I have been thinking about.

I think both teams were similar in that they needed to develop a familiarity with all the new pieces. I think both teams have accomplished that.

I really feel the outcome of the preseason game will be similar to this one.

I think it will be close in the 1st half and we start pulling away in the 2nd.

Let's put it this way, it is no secret as to what franchise Payton is modeling his own after.

The intensity of the game, the full game plan being implemented and starters playing the entire game. Other than that not much. :laugh2:

New coach, new staff, new playbook, new QB, rookie starters .... they needed extra time to get rolling.

Starting out their regular season against a couple of weak teams also helped them to get on a roll (Browns and Packers).

Yea, strong 3-4 defense and a conservative offense meant to control the clock...

One could almost make the argument that we are more fundamentally different (and better) than the Dallas team in the preseason vs the Saints regular season and Saints preseason.

Although they have Colston and Bush playing better than preseason...
We have a new QB who is dynamic, and we got back one of the best WRs in the game

30-7....hmmm, have the Saints gotten 24 points better? and if so, have we gotten any better?
Interesting discussion eh?

You can't read much into pre-season.

Pre-season games are irrelevant in that their is minimal game planning, different coaches like to look at different players in various roles, etc.

I don't think the preseason match-up means anything. Both teams were calling vanilla O and D plays. Brees was still getting used to throwing in game situations. It was the second game I believe the o-line played together. Bush is a different back now. There are a bunch of things that have changed since then for the Saints and I'm sure the Cowboys as well.

This game will come down to execution. If Dallas executed then the disproportionate talent levels will show but if Dallas doesn't and New Orleans does then they will likely hang around.

Agreed.

If we can eliminate our turnovers and penalties, we should be able to win this game and pretty easily control the clock.

I hope Romo starts strong early on and our defense is focused from the Saints opening drive. What happened to our defense vs. the Bucs opening drive (irrespective of Ware being held  ) on Thanksgiving should never happen.
