Anyone heard or think we'll hear something before free agency starts or closer to the draft. One would think there would be a sense of urgency since tagging DLaw left little cap space.

They're probably going to try and work out long term deals with both Lawrence and Martin before tackling the Dez issue.............Just my humble opinion.

But I would think they'd need cap space they expect from his restructure and/or release.

I don't get the feeling the Cowboys FO has any sense of urgency about this.

I tend to agree because I think they are going to follow the same failed FA plan where they sign no one of consequence. They are beyond stubborn.

They don’t need his cap savings right now so no point in restructuring or even cutting him.

Or anything else for that matter.

Seems odd for a team that had a lousy season and obviously went backwards and were clearly passed by the Super Bowl champs.

But nothing has happened with any sense of urgency. From the coaching changes, to player decisions, to...anything.

But then again, why would a front office that's immune from being fired feel urgency, right?

The draft will write the rest of the Dez story.

If we draft a WR early, Dez likely gets phased out in a year or two max...

It’s funny. Last offseason we were coming off a 13-3 season. The argument then was we were so close we could just use the draft to fill in the remaining holes.

This offseason we are coming off a non-playoff year where we saw a divisional rival fly past us. But apparently this isn’t the time to dip into FA either.

In other words the offseason strategy never changes regardless of the team currently built.

I imagine we’ve got out top negotiators on the case.

“Hey Dez, it’s Jerry!”
“Evening Mr. Jones, what’s up?”
“Dez, I’m not gonna beat around the bush. We need you to take a paycut.”
“I’m good.”
“Please?”
“Nah.”
“Pretty please?”
“No thanks.”

Makes Cowboys sense. Ignore the biggest position of need until all the quality players are signed, then go WR on day 3 of the draft and put a call into Antonio Freeman to see if he remembers how to play.

That’s the Jerry way as long as the drama exists. He can continue to string the fans along. We have been hearing about being a couple players short for 20 years.

It would be very interesting to see how he reacts to not being the top dog in that group. I view the guy a a team cancer and predict it will not go well.

If anything happens with Dez prior to the draft I would think it would be to lower his salary and move forward with him in 2018. I find it hard to believe they would release him prior to the draft forcing themselves to have to take a receiver with their top pick. They may take a receiver with their first or second pick regardless if Dez returns but you don’t want to be forcing your hand having to take one. You don’t want to move on from your top receiver and not have their replacement already in house.

We can’t release Dez and just move all our receivers up. It’s a must that we improve our receiving corp if Dak is going to have a bounce back season. Dez is the only real threat we have at receiver, Despite his drop in production he still put up 8 TDs last season and was our leading receiver.

I’m just flabbergasted that he forgot how to catch a football in one season....

The Front office is currently busy going over plans for hosting the NFL draft

  • Where should the concessions be? Should we bring in new ones? Let's a have sampling of prospective draft day new vendors
  • Where should the stage be..how high or deep should we have two sets of stairs or three
  • Should we bounce back and forth and gave dome activities at the star
  • What kind of entertainment are we bringing in - let's vote on that later
  • Should we charge for parking
  • Opening ceremony speeches
