What's it like to be a Cowboys fan in Houston?

I've lived here for over 20 years but grew up in East Texas during the 70s when the Cowboys ruled the state. There are LOTS of Cowboys fans here, but also lots of fans of other teams as well. Houston is a "melting pot" sunbelt city as many people from across the country - and across the world - moved here during the oil boom of the 70s/early 80s. The economy here also was better during the recent recession and tax laws are favorable for businesses as well, which led to another influx of people in recent years. Almost all Cowboys games are televised here, which is a source of annoyance to many Texans fans I know. All in all I wouldn't call it hostile but I wouldn't say it is friendly either. The sports talk guys Always have derogatory things to say about both the Cowboys and Dallas as well.

There is one Houston station that is totally anti-Cowboys, so i don't even tune in. A lot of Texan fans have a chip on their shoulder about the Oilers and carried it over to the Texans. I am always happy to point out that i meet Cowboys fans all over this country. NO ONE outside of Houston cares about the Texans.

It's great being a Cowboy fan here. Heck, I would put a small wager on there being more Dallas fans here than Texans. They are jealous, petty and are upset because they are still the red-headed stepchild of Texas.....and that will never change. They know it, we know it and America knows it, that is what irks them the most IMO.

its a one way rivalry..beating the cowboys is still there biggest win. probabaly 9 out of 10 fans wouldnt trade it for their lone playoff win.

What is funny is I actually rooted for the Houston Oilers and loved Bum Phillips.
Was a huge fan of Earl Campbell and was devastated about those late 70s playoff loses to the Steelers.
But I loath the Houston Texans about as much as a division rival.

I loved seeing them fall flat on their faces last season

I live in Houston and they hate the cowboys as much as any of our rivals. My neighbor has a tag on his truck (FCWBYS) that says it all. Its funny and sad at the same time. I mean shouldn't they hate the Colts, JAGS or Titans?

They should considering The Texans are not one of our rivals. Always laugh at fanbases like the Texans and Saints that has this unhealthy hate for us yet we don't give them the same attention.

One of my Texans coworkers was ribbing me about a Cowboys loss when I reminded him that the Texans loss also, his response was "it really doesn't matter if the Texans lose or win as long as the Cowboys lose then I'm happy". Like someone else said, it's kinda sad.

Its not just those 2 teams. Its 31 other teams.

I grew up in the DC area. Those Skins fans hate us way more than we hate them. They are obsessed with us. Every hour of every day of every year. Its a hatred based in jealousy and the realization that no matter what they will ever do, they will never be on par with us. Its a hatred of jealousy. We hate them more as just a thorn in our sides,and because of their obsessive hatred with us. Eagles fans are obsessed with all things Cowboys as well. I would imagine Giants fans arent much different. The whole league, they're all jealous of us and we havent won anything for almost 2 decades. Like Hos says, embrace the hate.

It boils down to this - they all hate us so much because there is absolutely nothing any of them can do to ever be our equal. We're in all their minds.

Pittsburgh fans still have an inferiority complex with the Cowboys. Its pretty funny. I actually get along with a lot of skins fans living just outside of DC. Basking in irrelevance together.

I think 49ers and Steelers fans don't feel inferior,especially given their recent success, but yes, most, most fans in the league.

I've lived in Houston for 20 years. Yes they hate us. Tons and tons of uneducated low/no wage earning people here and throw in 500,000 illegals. I can't have a civil conversation at a sports bar with a Texans fan - they ALWAYS start arguing irrelevant stuff. They always bring up their first win against Quincy Carter. I just ignore them. Some AM sports radio announcers are cool, but most need to keep their jobs so they candy coat ZerO'Brien and their troubles. Pure hatred from them.

Been in h town 0ver 20 years. Best part was when cowboys fans took over reliant stadium in 2010. Texan fans were pissed. They tried to blame cowboys fans for all the violence outside the stadium but most reports had Texan fans being the d bag fans.

The skins are different. They actually are a rival. Most would agree they are our number 1 or 2 rival. The Saints and Texans don't crack the top 5. The Skins fans do hate us more then we hate them though.
