I caught an episode of Seinfeld yesterday where George got a three month severance package from the Yankees and decided to take the Summer off, declaring it the "Summer of George."

My question is: What is everyone else doing to get make their Summer memorable this year?

I bought a jet ski and am (slowly) getting back into wakeboarding.

Working out, at some point. I'm trying to get back on my workout plan

And traveling...in and outside of Texas. Deadline for work was pushed back. Got a little breathing room to bounce around for vacations and such.

Funny this came up.

I've had the misfortune of working closely with a good friend for about eight years now at my main job. He's technically my supervisor, but until about the last year or so, it was me essentially running the show. I actually used to make more money than he did as he was on salary, and I opted for an hourly wage....and overtime was plentiful until the last year and a half. At one point his inactivity in this job was so obvious, he was going to go to the big boss man to tell him that he was going to demote himself and we would switch roles, as I had clearly been doing his job for him for several years now. He never followed through.

He recently lost his side job and is now more active with his role. My input seems rather unwelcome now, despite the fact that our clients clearly prefer my work to his. I'm over it. I have a ESOP through this job that should pay off nicely in about four years, and I can likely find a better hourly wage elsewhere without too much of a problem. I'd also like to pursue a masters degree....as I've often thought about teaching when I reach 40 or so...something mellow with ample time off in the summers...and I actually like kids.

Anyway, I gave my "friend" a mouthful a few weeks back essentially telling him how much of a POS I thought he was, and that he owed me for me doing his job for him for so long, and covering up for the fact that he was rarely even in attendance. I have several people that would verify my story, and he knows/thinks I have him by the balls.

Anyway....I'm getting a very nice paid vacation out of this....and then I'm leaving that crap job.

I'll be surfing in the Outer Banks this weekend. In Miami for the 4th. In DC the week after that, and I'll be spending the remaining portion of my summer in Vermont on Lake Champlain....fishing, wakeboarding, wake surfing, wake skating, hiking mountains, etc. Basically enjoying life.

I haven't had a summer vacation in 8 years. This will be the summer of Thompson.
