What's next for Kelvin Joseph?

Diggs isn't coming off the field much so if he is paired with Diggs I would like to see him match up with Kirk and put Diggs on Green.

I think he merits more playing time. He is a gunner on special teams. Physical tackler and he punches like an OT on the press. His size is decent but he looks extremely athletic running, cutting, and turning. We are not seeing blown assignments.

I think he is going to be very good if he stays healthy and he keeps on this trajectory. He is much more physical than Diggs which is what you need. Diggs is a bonafide star but he runs behind piles and isn't as diligent in pursuit as he could be. You cannot stack that on a defense.

He can run, turn, and cut fastest amongst our corners. He's shown recovery speed and he is not as susceptible to comebacks and inside cuts like our bigger "prototype" corners. Brown gets smoked on those most.

I think they all deserve to play. This draft keeps coming along.
Excellent analysis!

One of the top traits that I like to review with regards to CBs in the draft, is their ability to play comebacks.
- Some CBs take an extra step (relative to other CBs) to stop and then comeback.
- Even some CBs with elite athletic measurables are in that group that requires the extra step.
- IMO, it's the top limitation for Anthony Brown.
- Brown has excellent speed but he lacks that elite agility to stop on a dime and burst back upfield instantly.
- Deion is remembered for his speed, but he had the best ability to go from full speed to a stop and then back to full speed of anybody.

Yes, he was defending against a poor team but he played excellent and that's exactly what good corners do against bad teams. They shut them down.

But what's the plan with him now?

Revert back to CB 4 and special teams?

I mean Lewis has been playing excellent in the slot so he needs to get his job back.

Does he take over for Anthony Brown now?

Can Quinn and MM really leave him off the field after Sunday night's performance?
he should get more snaps and playing time and get him ready for playoffs as a contingency plan.....with Covid, etc. you need depth more than anything else. if the games against AZ and Eagles become meaningless, you start Joseph. let him get some reps.

You have to love Joseph's closing speed, or his speed in general. But he has not played much and more experienced wide receivers could take advantage of that. I think now is the time to get him in there to see what he can do.

I think this is such a hard decision to get right. You could argue a great problem to have too.
  • If we play him now, he may look fine and we all high 5 each other only to see him get torched in the playoffs and then it's done, season over.
  • If we play him now, he may struggle and then we sit him and bring him along NEXT year.
  • If we play him now and he balls out, then terrific - we got our 2 CBs for a while.
I just think 2 of the 3 scenarios above don't end as well so I'd rather take the cautious approach than the 1 in 3 shot.

KJ goes back to his role, and hopefully balls out on STs as his confidence should be high. Look towards to Philly game to get some snaps, maybe, as I expect MM to go after that #1 seed so maybe not.

i would also add that the worry has been his level of commitment. we lack direct access but I do think there are a few things we can infer.

first he is a gunner on special team. you put your best ST players at gunner. Joseph is one of our best special teams players and we have seen him beating blocks and making tackles in the role on ST. An uncommitted player doesn't accomplish that.

second, he is keeping a low profile. he is not seeking the camera or reporters for interviews. we didn't see a lot of him on hard knocks or sounds from the sideline. I find this notable as in leadership when managing someone with questionable commitment, you ask them to eliminate any distractions.

finally, it is the level of consistency in his execution. Diligence equals commitment. They throw bubble screens, hitches, picks, and all kinds of route combinations and coverage calls. He doesn't blow assignments. Moreso, he is quick in his reads. Throw in him being so raw for football snaps and that is remarkable. It's a credit to his intelligence and his level of committment.

I am feeling comfortable with Bossman moving forward.

No, Cover-2 is a coverage formation.

4 DL and 7 DBs is a personnel grouping.

Personnel Groupings based on number of DBs:
4 Base
5 Nickel
6 Dime
7 Double-Dime

Cover-2 is most often implemented with Nickel personnel, but it's not personnel dependent.
Nickel
4 DL
2 LBs
5 DBs (Big Nickel if the extra DB is a Safety instead of a CB)
You can substitute the two linebackers for two more safeties if you have them. It’s a hybrid lol Are usually they double your two best receivers. But my point still remains the same. Cowboys have been seeing a lot of courage too

So not to repeat myself but. Cover to fort down lineman just like you said. And seven defenders. Group in any way you like it still a cover to formation

I'm confused.

Cover two just means you have two deep zones and everyone else is in either man or underneath zones. It's about coverage assignments not the positions that fill them.

Normally it is two deep S but teams regularly roll corners and LB up on calls for cover 2.
