What's so good about Xavier Woods?

I still don't get the hype behind this player. Surprised Kris Richards plays him so much. He is undersized and a poor tackler for the safety position.

What's so good about him?
I've wondered the same thing.

He's got decent instincts..he's got a little bit of playmaking ability to him..solid in coverage...but he's not as good as most claim him to be around here...I'm w you on this one, im still waiting for him to step up

Seriously? He absolutely bailed out J Smith and LVE all day. Can't you guys enjoy a victory along the way to the march to the Superbowl? 9 solo tackles are pretty good if you ask me.

For a Safety?

Maybe 9 tackles is good in a game where we gave up 70 rush yards on 20 attempts.

A majority of his tackles came from the passing attack because Eli found guys open in his zone.

Xavier Woods is short (5'11"), slow (4.54 40), light (200 lbs), misses some tackles and at times makes the wrong read or takes the wrong angle. On a positive note, he can make several INTs and can lay a hit when he does zero in on a receiver.

The old adage of "you can't have a pro-bowler at every position" is oh so true in the salary cap era. Woods has a base salary of $645K and a cap hit of $685K this season. Are there better safeties? Sure. But I would say he's worth what he's getting paid, and then a little. Zeke, Dak, Amari, the O-Line, et al will consume most of the pie. We should be glad for the X Woods of the world.

True. It's crazy how the cost of a select few will force the team to settle for much less at most other positions.

Yep, but that's the way of the NFL world with the salary cap. A lot of fans forget that the cap exists and want All-Pros at every position. This team does not have an overall weak defensive backfield...I'd say it's pretty decent, all things considered, and Woods is a contributor to that at a relatively low cost. All JMO, of course.

Xavier Woods, like many others before him is seriously miscast in this scheme. We have the players to run an aggressive defense and dictate to the offense, instead we have guys like Woods and Jaylon playing from their heels and reacting.

Is Woods a world beater at safety? Not by any stretch, but this is the same team and coaching staff that left an overmatched, underperforming Byron Jones at safety two years too long. They have no idea how to evaluate safeties or put DBs in the best position. It's been proven.

Also, hammering the guy for not making more plays from a single high look with ZERO pass rush just shows how little some people understand.
