its 499 and 599. its only 199 if you are a current iphone owner and at&t subscriber.

...and I am, so therefore its $199. ;)

I would like an Iphone eventually but I am on Verizon... so it happening anytime soon.

With that said... Apple blew it big time.... they could have nailed the market down by having the Iphone available on more than one phone network(AT&T)...

they didnt and now everyone is coming on strong with the "touch phones"... its the future.... and their cut of that pie is relatively small when it could have been a HUGE piece.

Nokia coming on strong.... cant count our Motorola yet either...

Anyhoo

Verizon has a new phone out called the LG Dare and so far has good reviews. Not every handset is perfect and they all have their quirks but this new phone looks a lot better than the Voyager that was previously introduced.

I still use the "Gekko 2000" -- you know, the cell phone used by Gordon Gekko in Wall Street.

I got the DARE about a week ago.

It is not an iphone killer. Its not even close. Its akin to getting the girl with a nice personality. :D

Seriously... the DARE is a cool little feature phone but it is WEAK.
I am sending it back monday.

It is a little better than Voyager(had that one too)... advantage Voyager has is that it has a real qwerty keyboard.

Neither phone is great... good at best.

I hate cell phones.

Ok...continue with your discussions.:laugh1:

Cell phones piss me off too. People act like they can't live without them and they get a dang woody in their pants every time they ring. The addiction to text messaging (especially when driving) is just ********.

I need one just for emergencies on the road. They are very convenient but people can't just keep it at that.

There's nothing wrong with having one and using it for communication, but the obsession is sickening.

One of the posters in here that I knew personally (will not use names) was the all time gossip queen. Biggest girly man in the world when it comes to cell phones, rumors, gossip, and just plain ole being a douchewad.

Gotta be Hos. I mean, come on...50,000 posts? Someone likes to chat. :D

I have a $30 refurbished phone on a prepaid plan. I spend $10 every 3-4 months. No reason to be on the phone everywhere I go all the time. I just got the phone a few months ago and it is my first. I don't ever see myself getting into a monthly plan unless they get something reasonable for $20 or less.

The iPhone is a cool piece of technology and fun to play with, but I'm not going to buy one any time soon.

If what's stated above is true, that it's only $199.00 for current iPhone users, that's a disgusting bit of false advertising to spit out on people. No such conditions are mentioned in the TV ad and if it's on Apple's website, they're hiding it very well.

Not to mention you have to bring your SS# and Government issued ID to simply get... a phone? Thats also an iPod? Give me a break, that's over the top.

It's also for new AT&T customers. It's like that for every phone. Any time you see an advertised price, it's most likely the price you get when signing up for a 2 year contract. The iPhone's eligibility requirements are actually much broader than most other phones.

But even though I'm new, if I sign up for a 2 year contract, it will be $199.00?

Its more like Yugo dressed up as a Porsche and with the Porsche's price tag.

Yes, it will be.

Okay, that I get and understand.
I'm still not happy about the whole ID thing, though. It's not wise to give everyone your SS#, I shouldn't have to to buy a phone.

Not even close. First, $199 for a cell phone isn't that expensive when we're talking high-end phones. Second, the interface is lightyears beyond other phones. This is not debatable for anyone that's actually owned or used one for a considerable amount of time.

By the way, I downloaded the MonkeyBall app -- pretty nifty. Another free app that I downloaded (for the geeks) is a lightsaber app which works with the accelerometer on the phone. When you wave the phone it makes light saber sounds. Not really useful, but definitely cool as hell, and it shows the potential of uses for the accelerometer in games and apps.

I cant wait for Google's ANDROID.

In the near future you will be able to buy an empty phone and install FREE ANDROID software and have ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING(feature/functions-wise) on your cell.

As it should be. Who are these phone companies limiting options and features etc...

You can do that with iPhone's app store. Anyone can create an application.

Yea the LG Dare is pretty cool, it would be better if it had push e-mail support.

Ive was thinking of getting the iphone but Im not a AT&T customer so I doubt I will spend the extra dough for it, especially when I would have to pay $200 to get out of my Verizon contract. Would of been worth it for $299 but not $499 plus a buyout.

Oh well, guess I just have to keep waiting for Verizon to get its act together and come up with a kick arse phone.
