...you ever made on a Cowboys win?
I've had a lot of crazy bets but the craziest is a no brainer. I was in college and worked evenings at a sporting goods store. There were 4 of us who worked there and the other 3 were all High School buddies who happened to hate the Cowboys.
Andy was a Packers fan.
Marc was a 49ers fan.
Chris was a Bills fan.
Dallas was the defending Super Bowl Champion (XXVII).
In the Divisional Playoffs we faced Green Bay. Andy and I were discussing a bet. Marc suggested that we bet each a "bust in the chops." The winner got to hit the loser right in the mouth. Chris loved the idea, and Marc was insistent it was a great bet.
Andy wasn't as hip to the idea. I have to admit, I wasn't either, but I was confident. I said I'd take the bet. Andy never went for it. We ended up making a bet that the other had to wear the winner's cap for the coming week.
Dallas beat Green Bay and Andy got to wear a Cowboys cap at work for the whole week.
Next up was San Francisco. Marc could put up or shut up. Now Andy was bringing up the "bust in the chops" bet. Chris still loved the idea. Marc was a great smack talker BTW. He did tend to get a little hot under the collar if you talked it back and got the best of him. Dallas had beat the 49ers in the NFC Championships the year before. During the regular season we had won again. I had scoreboard.
Marc was getting more and more riled up and he finally decided he wanted to bust me in the chops really bad. We made the bet.
Dallas won.
So it was time for Marc to pay up. The rules of this bust in the chops were that you had to punch from your shoulder or the length of your arm, and you had to be squared up to the target. In other words no big time winging roundhouse punches.
So Marc braced for the punch and I busted him in the chops.
I turned to Chris and asked him if he wanted to make the same bet since he had felt for 2 weeks that it was a great bet. Chris was not at all interested.
I guess I hit Marc pretty hard.
