What's the problem with Cam Skattebo?

I don't matter how fast you run if you are averaging 3.5 yards per carry.
I'm just stating the reason Skattebo isn't at the top of team's RB list. If you can find a different reason, please share.

OK I'll bite, what's the issue there?

Hunter Luepke - 6'1" 230lbs 4.61 40 time
Cam Skattebo - 5'10" 220lbs 4.65 40 time

Leupke logged 328 snaps last year. Most projections have Skattebo as a role player as well. Common themes you hear is short yardage specialist who can also add some value as a part time receiver out of the backfield. Granted a team would be drafting Skattebo to touch the football more than Leupke does as he is a more gifted runner, but the general concepts around both players seem fairly similar.

This is a copy/paste from a draft profile web site, but it sounds very familiar....

Scouting Report: Strengths

  • Demonstrated the ability to track the ball over his shoulder. Good flexibility and balance to adjust to the poorly thrown pass. Good vision and patience for screens.
  • Has good burst to and through the hole. A patient runner with good vision and burst for the cutback. Squares his shoulders and can knock the defender back onto his heels. Good leg drive and forward lean to gain extra yardage after contact.
  • Underrated blocker. Cognizant pass defender who is willing to meet a linebacker in the gap.
  • Solid receiver in the flat, capable of running through tackles on the edge to move the chains. Flexible enough to catch passes thrown behind him.
  • Fights for extra yardage and is reliable in short-yardage situations.
  • Not truly explosive, but possesses enough speed to beat linebacker to the edge.

Not saying he is 100% going to be Luepke, but I don't think its too crazy to think that this could be his floor as an NFL player.

Luepke ran for 600+ yards, receiving 200 and 10 TD's as a senior.

Skateebo 1,700+ yards and 600+ receiving and 24 TD's. So the difference is about 1,500 yards and more than double the TD's as a senior.

Plus he is 5'9.

If he doesn’t break tackles at the same rate in the NFL as he did in College he’ll be fairly ordinary. I think his toughness and pass catching ability will allow him to carve out a role like a Rex Burkhead type career as a 3rd down back.

Luepke (A FB) had 112 touches, Skatteboo 238 touches…gee I wonder why 1 has significantly more yards.

Between spamming this thread and the Shemar Stewart thread I posted you’re making it painfully obvious you don’t actually watch football. You’re just looking at stats and making these strong assurances like you know what you’re talking about. Just a hint…you don’t.

Pay attention. I was not the one comparing them. I was responding to someone who was comparing them.

You’re doing a pretty bad job of responding though. I’m still confused how you’re only follow up to a laughing emoji is their college stats like that means anything. Tm1119 seems pretty spot on that you’re just reposting numbers. That’s fine but it’s never been a consistent method of projecting guys to the next level.

He needs to get more consistent in pass pro to be that full time 3rd down guy, but if he can Burkhead isn’t a bad comp. I forgot all about him.

Sure prior results is not a predictor.

IMO he's a day 3 back. Limited, but is a try hard bulldozer of a back that doesn't go down easy. I do like the comp with Barber.

Ideally, a hard nose pairing back.
I don't see anything "wrong" with him. Just not a top back in the draft.

I dont know what round to pick him , but Ill take him on my team in a heartbeat. Dude is plain out....a football player

I saw Skatebo play three times this year and people who are judging him by his speed (or lack of it) don’t understand his game. He’s a football player. Plain and simple.

I see this kid as an effective situational player. He will obviously be great in short yardage situations but he’s also an underrated receiver.

He’s not an every down back but on the right team with the right understanding of what he can do, he will be effective. Is he an every down back? No. Can he be part of an effective committee? Yes.
Right. I see him as a Taysom Hill type player.
