On not being labeled "1st team?" I mean in all honesty, none of it means anything it's just an honor. The same way he gets snubbed, is the same way he can make all of those voters etc look stupid by having a MONSTER playoff run!!! Please give your thoughts

Edge is a position with lots of super talented guys. Can't ever fault watt bosa Garrett and Parsons for being selected in any order. Micah has made 2 first team all pros in his first two years and second team this year. He's doing great but if he views it as a snub I hope he blows up the playoffs like Jefferson in fast times at ridgemont high.

Recognition by fellow players is always relevant. Seperations and upper echelon shows strength in a player. Dallas has 9 players Pro Bowlers as 1st or 2nd team means the strength and depth that Jerry has put together is actually very relevant in a team picture. Probably why Jerry is excited about this very playoff.

He’s the best pass rusher in football but he’s not the most well rounded edge player. Watt, Garrett, Crosby are all elite pass rushers and run defenders. Parsons is pretty mediocre against the run. For that reason I would have no problem with him getting 1st team, but also wouldn’t say he’s snubbed when he doesn’t get it.

His run defense seems to be improving with some tackles there now...

Right. Parsons has become somewhat one dimensional . Not even playing all downs .

He’s definitely over hyped by Cowboy fans . It’s understandable since it’s been so long since we’ve had someone of his caliber .

No clear-cut, best pass rusher

As witnessed with the various All-Pro teams, from the NFLPA to PFF, the AP to Next Gen Stats, opinion is split amongst who the best edge rusher was this year. No one player stood out above the others amongst the three players considered to be the best at the position.
Pittsburgh’s TJ Watt led the league in sacks, with 19 across 17 games, clear of two players tied for second with 17.5. No one is seriously considering Trey Hendrickson or Josh Allen for the award. The other two top edges, Cleveland’s Myles Garrett and Dallas’ own Micah Parsons are the other contenders.
Watt also had the best run stop numbers among the group, but of the top edges, Watt was routinely last or next to last in every advanced stat pass-rushing metric.
Parsons led the league in pressures and saw himself double-teamed far more than any other NFL player, on his way to a career-high 14 sacks. He absolutely dominated the majority of advanced metrics for edge rushers.

The Cowboys have generally resisted the trend of bend-but-don’t-break coverage. Dan Quinn has preferred to do what he knows best, and that’s Cover 1. Dallas led the NFL in Cover 1 usage in 2023 and doesn’t appear to be in any hurry to change that as they enter the postseason. Together with his amoeba-like front, Quinn is free to send three, four or even five rushers after the passer without any major disruptions in coverage.

While everyone else in the NFL is aggressively packing secondaries to limit chunk plays and make intermediate windows narrow, the Cowboys are still embracing the risk-reward nature of Cover 1.

With his favorite coverage to lean on, Dallas has been happy to mix up the pass rush. Notoriously not one to be blitz-happy, Quinn has taken on a more aggressive attitude of late, blitzing 28.5% of the time in 2023. This blitz rate ranks the Cowboys 13th in the league and has made the Dallas pass rush one of the NFL’s most feared units in the NFL.

Oddly enough, where the Cowboys have drawn the most criticism isn’t in their stubborn refusal to accept current NFL trends in coverage, it’s in their less aggressive defensive fronts. When Dallas doesn’t prioritize pressure and drops extra players into coverage, their defense has looked downright terrible at times. Is that a matter of the oft-unreliable “eye test” or do the number back it up?

He's kind of a one trick pony and there's guys that are better than him at his one trick.

Sacks will always matter more than pressures and Micah just went like 5 weeks without a sack.

The Cowboys’ coverage scheme is built with pressure in mind. Ballhawks fly freely in the secondary and thrive with man coverage and nervous QBs. Stephon Gilmore is holding passers to a CPOE of -5.9 when targeted while DaRon Bland holds them to a dismal -12.0% CPOE. The Cowboys are essentially built to pressure passers and lean on their man-coverage CBs, and sometimes that means blitzing.

The Cowboys aren’t conforming to league trends and it’s working to their advantage. In a season in which big plays are hard to come by, the Cowboys are prone to give one here and there, but over the course of the season their style has served them well and they intend to lean on that style as they embark on the postseason.

If refs call the holds Parsons will be fine...

We need to wreck his Camaro and blame it on Green Bay.

If Micah Parsons considers being selected second team all-pro a snub, then salute.

No he isn't. And it's not just cowboy fans hyping him up. If you see him being triple teamed and his double team rate and prwr he's deserving of his hype.

He's a solid run defender but you line him against guys that outweigh him by 80-100 lbs and you put him at a disadvantage. He's a lb that is great at pass rushing.

No he isn't. He's one of the more versatile defenders. If you remember him covering and playing lb. We use him one dimensionally.

Sacks matter but if you look at his double team rate and prwr there are a few guys in his league but none that are clearly better.

He's also at a disadvantage with the holding that is rampant in the NFL now,,, when you're a lighter guy you're easier to hold.
