What's the Vision for the Cowboys in 2025?

Every year teams start with a vision of how they want to be and every year they make adjustments attempting to account for their vision of their team.

I think they envision having a line that can dominate so much in the run game, it almost doesn't matter who the back is. That said, that's just a way to cover their arses if injuries at RB happen. I also think they see Jaydon Blue as an NFL ready back, who can contribute this year. If he does anything, work on those fumbles.

Pickens will stretch the field and make teams pay for doubling Lamb. Our TEs will be more involved in the running game this year as I expect quite a few 12 sets from Shottenheimer. That, along with the additional threat or Pickens also opens more opportunities for TE passing production. This will be a better year for our TEs.

Overall, I think the Cowboys think they'll have an electric offense for the 2025 season, and I like their optimism even if they are gambling in some areas. Those are good bets, and may lay off.

I think they expect this to be a good year for special teams and consistent with the previous few years.

As far as defense, I think they believe Eberflus can take an underachieving defense from last year and make them competitive this year. To be honest, I think they may be right.

Eberflus emphasizes takeaways and pressure, and he's done it with lessor players, I'd say, in Indianapolis.

If guys like Revel and Overshown can play by week 8 or 9, I think they think this team has a fighting chance down the stretch using Eberflus' rather vanilla scheme. They may be right. But I think the Cowboys also envision Odhigizuwa having a larger role in this new scheme, which is based on pressures probably moreso than sacks. Given the strategy, mostly zone coverages with a 4-5 man rush, they probably think they'll have a shot at being a team ranked in the top 5 in takeaways if this group can generate pressure.

Im not sure what what they're envisioning at safety, but hopefully they work that out.

The defense is tough, so many key guys still questionable when they will play but shouldn’t be worse either way. If offense can run the ball effectively they could be really good and really help the defense till they get healthy. I don’t expect to be drafting high next year but don’t expect to be drafting near the bottom either

More explosion on offense. Fun to watch team with a feast or famine defense. Great entertainment value but not built to win in the postseason.

On the defense, some of those depth guys got some valuable experience. That year could pay off for them this year. Theoretically, at least.

I mostly agree with everything in the opening post, but I think it's going to be tough sledding the last half of the season with a brutal schedule lined up. Perhaps, fortunately, the NFC East and AFC West will be beating up on each other, so the other squads are in the same boat.

I am going to have to see Dak play before I believe he has fully recovered from that hamstring injury - hamstrings and calf injuries tend to linger on and on, and you might feel just fine until it pops again.

We can only trust that the scouting and coaching departments know what they are doing with the RB situation - I'm somewhat skeptical at this point but maybe they really think they improved the line enough to make the guys they have be enough. I'm of the opinion that a committee approach is not a solution - someone needs to step up and take full command of that position. Not confident right now that guy is on the team.

So yeah, I think the "vision" is to become a more physical team compared to previous years. I think they are pointed in the right direction, but due to all the guys recovering from injuries and a tough schedule, I'm not optimistic we will see the needle move much this season. I hope they prove me wrong though.

I sure hope they’re able to follow through with their seeming commitment to establishing a new culture with a physical offensive and defensive lines. It pays dividends to the skill players on both sides. Not only that, it demoralizes the other team. Hard to do because it takes commitment from all 53.

Mostly more of the same, really….not good enough to make a deep postseason run, not bad enough to get into a position to draft the players that are necessary to do so.

Draft around 15-22 and the first rounder is your big off-season acquisition. If that player busts you start them for four years regardless.

Use up and/or save future cap space to sign the jersey sellers, who we already know aren’t enough to win with.

I say they'll attempt to run a 2016 type offense again with downhill running and timely play action. Not sure how successful it will be once opponents start loading the box.

Defensively, I think the personnel limits them to be a copy of Quinn's type defense depending strongly on sacks and turnovers.

Not confident in the starting QB's full season availability along with a highly suspect pair of backups behind him.
I also think they will struggle to stop the run again.

With a significantly improved offense, we will be playing with a lead more frequently. This will allow our D to go back to being one dimensional, and getting after the QB, resulting in sacks and turnovers.

The challenge becomes, did we gain enough ground on the top teams, that can physically run the ball. Teams that can dominate the clock, while scoring points, will be a challenge for us. We can not expect Dak to win games 40 to 38 on a consistent bases.

Do we possess enough of a legitimate run threat on 1st & 2nd D's to keep Defenses honest for Play Action? My vision is that Jerry's never going to allow us to be a run first team whilst paying Dak/CeeDee and trading a 3rd for Pickens.
Add in our inability/difficulty playing when the scoreboard's against us, I think we're going to earn the run lanes ,early on, by using Pickens downfield (Javonte, used primarily for blocking), this will open up CeeDee and get Blue into the game sooner.

If we play the above, we're going to be able to go full on Quinn D, the strength is the Pass-Rush. I envisage that there will be a shortage of peanut butter in the DFW area as we abandon any dream we have of Mazi paying anything other than a facilitator in pass-rush.

On paper, I totally agree. I believe (again, on paper) they did improve the offense. Obviously we won't know what we have until after preseason and into game 2 or 3 of the regular season.

Competition. Being more physical. Getting back to running the ball and then PAP. Stopping the run on defense (or at least trying) and getting teams in 3rd and long and forcing turnovers and sending pass rushers in waves (not blitzing a lot, but rotating). Discipline. I think the results will start to show this year but that it is more a two or three year process to get where we want to be
