What's too high for Jacoby Ford?

I admit I'm a sucker for speed, but this guy reportedly ran routes and caught the ball well, also. He has really rare speed. Where would you take him?

I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it into the late first. What if we traded down slightly and took him?

I know -- we don't really *need* a WR. Just wondering.

I think he'll go early second, for sure....Maybe late first. With that kind of speed... Like the Titans did with Chris Johnson, or that other RB they took the year before him.

I don't know how I feel about him as a player--I haven't seen that much of him. But if the Boys like him they'll need to pick him pretty early, because I feel like someone is going to grab him really high.

I disagree. I don't think he even gets into the 2nd. His speed is obviously outstanding, but he doesn't translate it well to the field. Unless Oakland jumps on him, I can't see a team taking him before the 3rd.

But did it not translate because of lack of effort or concentration, like some guys? Or lack of a top QB and coaching?

My problem with him is he is 5'9. That is an awfully small target and I can't see him having much of an impact with that height as a receiver.

But...

Hes worth a risk.

I think if Dallas wants him we'll have to use a 2nd on him. Maybe trade back in the 2nd.

But if Gilyard or D.Williams is there how can you justify taking Ford?

I like the way he runs; he's not just a sprinter. He's got some quickness too...I still think he's going pretty high, on potential alone.

I look at him like Ogletree, who didn't have the best production in college either; is it possible that there's a reason, besides the player himself, for that? Or is it all on his shoulders? I don't know cause I haven't watched that much of him at all, to be honest. Of course, Ogletree didn't cost us a second rounder, so drafting Ford would be a little bit different risk

I've watched him quite a bit and I don't question if he can play football. I know he can. I just don't know if he can make a impact in the NFL.

How many teeny tiny guys like him do we see have success?

I mean he is built well enough that I dont think durabilty should be a concern But that height pushes me away from giving up anything higher than a 4th.

But some team is going to use a late 2nd on him.

What about Desean Jackson?

Without much thought, I can think of a few 5'8 -5'10 range:
Steve Smith--CAR
Santana Moss
Desean Jackson
Wes Welker
Eddie Royal
etc,

I agree that he's gone before the end of the second.

A little taller and much faster than Ford on the football field.

And as good as Desean Jackson is he limits what the Eagles can do on offense.

I think they are a better team when they are forced to take Jackson or Maclin out of the game and get a bigger body in there.

They actually sustain drives when they dont have 2 small bodies out wide.

With that said we wont be asking Ford to be our #1.

I just dont think we should touch him until the 4th round because of his height and the role he would have on this team.

But I think some team will risk it and pick him in the 2nd.

Hes a football player but not a good enough football player to be taken that high IMO.

Really? There's no way we take him with our high second rounder, and we don't have a third rounder. We could use some WR reinforcements though.

No way. They are going to grab a QB and OL. They don't have a 3rd round pick.

Mayock said his speed doesn't translate well either...I could see someone like Oakland/Chicago jumping on him in the second, if not he falls to late part of the round, early third.

16 receiving touchdowns, 2 rushing touchdowns, 1 kickoff return touchdown and 2 punt return touchdowns.

Jacoby Ford wasn't even the primary return specialist at Clemson because of C.J. Spiller.

Ford had a 91 yard punt return, a 94 yard kickoff return, a 53 yard run and a long pass reception of 77 yards.

Ford was a possession target the last two years, but I don't have any worries about his speed translating to the NFL if we end up with him.

Steve Smith of Carolina is 5'9".

And he plays like he's 6-2.

Steve Smith attacks the football.

Conversely, some wideouts play small and don't come up with the tough grabs. Terrell Owens played like he was 5-9 and never bailed Tony Romo out on contested throws.

Just because a player has size doesn't mean he uses it.
