We're keeping him aren't we? This has me very nervous. He's the best punter in the league right now IMO.

It's not just your opinion. I would think we will make every effort to keep him, he changes field position with every punt.

McBriar is restricted, if they offer him a high enough tender he will have draft pick compensation and that would scare off the other teams.

that's the answer for sure. Anyone will be scared off by high draft pick compensation for a punter. I feel better now.;)

This was in 2005: While terms were not available, it is believed Mike Scifres will surpass the $1.5 million average yearly salaries of Oakland's Shane Lechler and Tennessee's Craig Hentrich, both punters.

Is Dallas looking at 2 mill or more to keep McBriar?

McBriar is an undrafted player that we signed. We'd get no compensation if another team signs him. However, since he's a restricted FA if we make him a high enough offer that might dissuade another team from signing him.

just slap a tender on him, and see if anyone comes calling, if they do, just put more on the table

No, we can tender him at a level that would require another team to give us a draft pick (or picks) if they make him an offer and we don't match it.

To require a second-round pick as compensation, we'd have to tender him at $1.3 million for one year. For a first-round pick, we'd have to tender him at $1.573 million. And for first- and third-round picks, we'd have to tender him at $2,096,600.

Actually, I was wrong about the last two amounts. I was reading from the new CBA, and the way it was written had me looking at the 2006 amounts for the first-round and first-and-third levels.

The tenders for 2007 are $1.3 million at the second-round level, $1.85 million at the first-round level and $2.35 million at the first-and-third level.
