The guy won a Super bowl with Farve in his prime, Reggie White still dominant, home field advantage in playoffs, and woefully outgunned Patriot team. Then he turned around and lost a Super bowl to Denver team that they should have beaten by 10 points. He usually fields a competitive team, but I dont see him coaching to a higher level than the talent that surrounds him. Better head coach than Wade, yes. Difference maker, no. What am I missing here?

he's not a soft piece of **** like wade. he's had success in the playoffs including a superbowl win unlike wade. he actually coaches his team unlike wade.

+1, man ive seen holmgren get after his players good too. seems like a great balance between a disciplinarian and players coach. plus he can coach up a QB very very well.

I don't think you're missing anything. I'm wary of another old retread, too.

Holmgren is very capable, and I'd be fine with him as our coach. But I wish we could get someone younger. This job has worn down the last two 60+ year old guys.

1. he's not wade
2. we don't have him
3. he's somehow linked to good in the past so it automatically means good in the future regardless of any other evidence of this road working in the past. but he's todays semi-shiny object.
4. he's not wade.

Seattle fans aren't sad to see Holmgren go. After his last game in Seattle, he took a lap around the field to "thank" the fans and wave goodbye.

They pelted him with snowballs.

A younger guy, unless its someone like Gruden who has some clout, is not going to be able to stand up to Jerry the way someone like Parcells or Holmgren can. Again, it all comes back to the Main Ringleader.

I have to admit I would really like to see what he could do with this kind of offensive firepower too.

I have to be honest: if this was 1998 I'd be excited, but now? Seems like he's lost some fire: although he DOES have more fire in is pinky toe than Wade has in his whole fat body. That said, I really don't like the West Coast offense, but that's just my opinion.

The answer... Bill Cowher

it took cowher 9 years to win.

we won't give coaches 2.

He was in the playoffs his first two and went to the AFC championship in his third.

More importantly, his players and coaches had bought into his system and he had a sharp, focused team albeit not always the best talent decisions.

There is not a single solitary thing Wade's first two year's in Dallas have in common with Cowher's first two in Pittsburgh other than losing a playoff game in their first season.

Those may have looked like snowballs, but actually, they were throwing him fish.

The reason Holmgren is brought up is because it is reported Jerry Jones really likes him and they have developed a friendship over the years.

Yep. Plus Jerry really respects him. He has said so on many occassions. Jerry does not push around coaches he respect (see Jimmy and Parcells). I think he would have tried to get him here sooner, but the timing has never been right.

That said, I am not a fan of the West Coast offense either, but a guy like Homgren may be just the tonic that Romo and this team needs.

and what happened in that game? as well as numerous other home playoff games? they lost...

what system? he was a special teams guy...he has no expertise on offense or defense...he did not build that defensive system

again, would anyone want this guy if he hadnt stolen that super bowl from Seattle?

on the other hand maybe if we can get the same kind of officiating Cowher did in Pittsburgh he'd be worth it. We definitely get hosed more than anyone. One yr they had no offensive holding calls until the 15th game of the season. Not to mention the hose job they put on Seattle, and nearly put on us in XXX.

then I think Holmgren could be lured by JJ to come to Dallas as its OC/QB Coach.

Even if Garrett stays, we could use someone like Holmgren in the fold. I've been advocating for Holmgren as Assistant OC/QB Coach and Dom Capers as DC.
