Weekend soccer-tournament travels made this a DVR-watched Cowboys game for me, something I would walk through fire to avoid during the regular season, but don't fight in mid-August. "Know when to pick your fights," a wise man once said.
So I'm chuckling this morning, listening to the Eeyore's on the radio, and the accounts of the game from so many media outlets around here and elsewhere.
Did they watch the same game I saw on tape?
Best I can tell, Picaso and Rembrandt rarely show their face at a preseason game. These glorified pick-up games are wrought with ugliness most every time, and I find myself watching the clock and wishing they wouldn't stop it for anything. Get it over with, and get out healthy!
I actually saw nothing but positives. Call me nuts.
I don't care if Orton threw two picks because I knew what species he was already. Like any team, we can't afford to lose our starting QB, period.
Dunbar's fumble won't happen like that again the rest of his career. Complete fluke that's easily corrected, and wow, did he look quick on that? Harris and Dez had their arms around the ball. Just happens sometimes. That's football. Needs correcting, but I'm not worried.
Add Ron Leary, Anthony Spencer, Jay Ratliff, Mo Claiborne, and hopefully Brian Waters to that game, and play four quarters. I smell a rout.
The offensive line needs to get healthy quick. And yes, they need Waters, or someone, to shore it up so Bernadeau is just a solid backup.
Otherwise, I see a really promising football team coming together. Defense looks solid. Remember all the wide-open receivers in Ryan's defense? I didn't see those yesterday. Holloman looks like a find. Hayden ain't bad.
By the way, how in the h-e-double-hockey-sticks was that not a backwards pass? I don't care if his arm was coming forward, the ball went backward. Strange.
In the end, NO ONE GOT HURT. That is really the goal of a preseason game anyway, this day and age.
One more to survive, the "dress rehearsal", then a game just for the scrubs. We're getting close.
