Am certain part of this video was filmed at St Marks Place which was also used for the cover of Zeppelins Physical Graffiti album.
I grew up playing that genre of music with my uncles.. One of them was a 9 time Grammy winner in country music. I've met Willie, actually, Wilie is partly why my family ended up in Austin. I've also met Dolly Pardon, Ray Benson, Chet Atkins, and George Straight who I didn't even recognize because he was wearing flip flops, shorts and a t-shirt and a Rangers baseball cap. I wasn't ever really into country, except for maybe two-stepping with the ladies. But I still appreciated their talent. Asleep at the Wheel always had crazy talent in their band, too.
I learned a lot watching them record Chet.. because Chet was known to be a great player. At 70-years of age, he was still a brilliant player.. But he made mistakes, and told me that that's just part of playing, no matter your age. It's not that you make mistakes, it's how you recover. In the studio, you obviously redo the take.. But, he was talking about in live situations.
Anyway, my uncle played with the wheel, and another guy named Bubba Cox, and was the engineer/producer here in Austin at a studio called Bismeaux. That's where I met a few of the artists mentioned above. Willie used to hang out with my uncle Larry... and also Lyle Lovett would crash at his house sometimes. It was a trip. He himself was low-key, mostly known by some famous people, but he wasn't famous, per se.. But definitely well-respected in the business. And he and his brothers were all great mentors to me growing up.
