Rolling Stones, War, so many others did his songs. Pancho and Lefty by Merle and Willie was his song. He was really more of a songwriter than a performer. Fun fact - Van Zandt county is named for one of his ancestors.

These guys are coming to Boise this summer as one of the lineups for the Boise Music Festival. I'm absolutely planning on going. Loved this album when I was a kid. I wore that tape out! Might be 25 years late, but I could finally say I saw them.
