No DC or HC wants to play BDBD, that's an admission that they can't play straight up defense.
However, there are times, as we've seen with Parcells, Phillips and Marinelli when conservative keep it all in front of you and protect against the big play is the only answer.
Add to this they're missing the two best CB's and LB's and there's no way they're going to execute a new, and suggested to be complicated, defensive strategy and they will get frustrated. More than they already are.
The GM needs to pull out the old film of the team when Rob Ryan was disregarding the personnel and trying to run his defense and show that to McC and Nolan. They were so frustrated, they didn't know when to be on the field. Ask too many football players to think and not just play football and you've got a problem.
This is not only the time for BDBD but the KISS principle as well. Give up trying to fit the players to his system and fit the system to the players. Play to their strengths and don't say they don't have them, they're professional football players.
I think we're all being a little too hard on these D players, they're frustrated and getting more so with all the blame coming their way. Nolan needs to have their back and protect them, not expose them. These players are not as bad as they're looking right now. To a certain extent, they've been Chaz Greened by their DC.
This is not a team now. The O and D are not even close to complimentary football and while I was on board with the McC hiring, he's on the spot now. It is his job to bring them together as a team.
Good grief, they've got one of the more prolific offenses in the league and there are HC's that could make that work for the team.
Nolan would do well to check out what Arkansas did to Miss St after they put up 600+ yards passing on a more talented defense in LSU and beat them like a yard dog. They took a less talented group of players and played BDBD to control the scoring, not the plays. It's not about the yards, it's all about the score and the Cowboys offense can score on any defense.
McC must maximize their advantage on offense and minimize their weakness of defense. It's not just Nolan's job on the line. Coaching is all about putting your players in their best possible situation to be successful and they've not been doing that. And not with his decisions either.
