Now that Zeke Elliott is officially a Cowboy, I'm putting this in the Fan Zone. If it needs moving, I'm sure someone can do that.

Anyway, I think the vast majority of us like or love Elliott as a player.
But some of us would not have taken him with the 4th overall pick.
He's a Cowboy now and we all have his back, but let's document what we would have done for the fun of it
Don't change your tune now. All in good fun, folks.

Once Dallas was on the clock at 4th overall, what would you have done or tried to do?

(Obviously, Goff, Wentz, and Bosa were no longer options)

I think one thing should be added, because the Cowboys said it. If they traded down and Ramsey and Zeke were gone, they were going after Floyd. So 4th option could read "trade down to 6-11 range, draft Floyd".

I trade.

First thing I see if I can secure a 2017 # 1. If not ( and it would be unlikely anyways) I try to add another day 2 and early day 3 pick

Yeah, I recall that too.
I think the trade down to 6-11 range covers that enough.
Anyway, when we were on the clock, there would be no way to 100% for sure know who would be available after a trade down.

The argument drafting Zeke also indirectly helps the defense is an admission the defense needs help. Obviously the defense is in more need of help than the offense so isn't wiser to draft direct help for the defense rather than indirect help? Ramsey all the way.

Could you imagine the uproar if that would have happened.

Wow when I first heard that I was soooo glad we did not trade down.

I trade down, take Floyd. Pick up a 2nd and 4th, I do the rest of the draft the same, and I take Makenzie Alexander with my extra 2nd and Dixon with my 4th. We leave the draft with 2 DE's, including our RDE, a future starting CB , a intirior rusher, and a future starting HB

After bosa was gone the level of talent dropped considerably...it was either trade back into next years loaded draft or take a flyer on Elliott.

depends on what mode we're in: "Win Now" or "Build for Future"

I personally think the FO and coaching staff are in "Win Now" due to Romo's waning career and a last gasp attempt to get him a ring, which is why Zeke at 4

I always wanted the Elliott pick and even early this year had wrote the Cowboys explaining why I thought
he was the best selection but basically was stating the same thing Michael Irvin was in his campaign for Elliott.
I liked Ramsey but honestly really didn't think he even comes close to making the impact that Elliott will this season.
They blew me away in Round 2 with the Jaylon pick because never really seen this one coming but I did really
like the 3rd and 4th Round picks these were solid 8 to 10 year players they picked.

Supposedly we only had one team interested in trading with us. Baltimore was offering a 4th round pick for us to drop down to 6th. I like Elliott over Ramsey. I like Elliott over the possibility of Floyd plus the Raven's 4th round pick. I think the Cowboys made the right call when they just stayed put and drafted Elliott.

That's not true. There were other offers but it was further down than they preferred...and maybe not at the value that they wanted. That's why I said it could be slightly less than fair value.
Stephen was being a real stickler to the charts from what he's said in later interviews. That's what killed the trade up from 34 to get Lynch in the end.

Anyway, there are mixed reports on who the Raven were trading up for. At first it was Elliott ( i even heard Jerry say it on TV) but then the Ravens came out publically and and said Ramsey.
I don't know who to believe...but if it was Ramsey, then Dallas get Elliott at 6 plus the 4th. If not, then fall back option (if they didn't trade down further from there) was Floyd.

I picked Ramsey. That is what I said before the draft so not changing tune now. As far as trading out from the #4 spot I don't even consider that since it takes another willing partner to make it happen and I have not heard anything that any teams were looking to move to the #4 spot.

In the end I am happy with the selection and look forward to seeing Zeke make his mark in the NFL for the Cowboys

I know ice.
This thread was created in part to document it so people can't later come back and say they wanted Elliott all along....or didn't want him...either way.
It was mentioned in another thread that it would happen that way, so I did this for the heck of it.

No guarantee. Jags could have traded their pick away since they lost out on Ramsey.
