When Dez returns, do you want him returning Punts?

I don't mind an occasional PR in a critical situation, but not full time.

If Newman is too valuable to risk as a punt returner in a playoff game, trailing in the 4th quarter, (Giants game 2007 season ender) then Dez Bryant should never return a punt.

if aoa can handle it let him, that way we get some value from him till he starts

I say all three. Crayton when you need a fair catch in a critical situation. AOA the rest of the time. Bryant when you need a big play fast.

I hate it when Newman returns punts. We can't afford him to have an injury.

I would be fine with Dez being a situational punt returner when teams are backed up deep in their end of the field. The Cowboys have used Newman as a situational punt returner. When a team is backed up you have a much better chance at a big return. Dez returning punts doesn't concern me but I would hope we don't have him return kickoffs. The chance of injury is much greater returning KO's than punts especially now that they've done away with the wedge.

By the way Newman has never been very good at returning punts but I think Dez would be a great punt returner.

I was at training camp a few days ago standing right in front of the punt drills. AOA couldn't catch a punt if he was wearing stick-um all over his arms!!
Crayton caught everything that came his way and was trying to help AOA with his catching...didn't seem to matter much.

If he's not a starting WR then yes he's the full time punt returner.

Crayton isnt the starting WR either. Or Hurd, or Ogletree ect.
If Dez is as good at WR as the hype suggest then i dont want him returning punts. It seems like a risk not worth taking to have a guy that should be giving you a serious offensive contribution to risk injury returning punts.

Especially a guy coming off of a high ankle sprain that has already missed an important part of his rookie year.

Crayton has done an excellent job as the punt returner. I wonder if his feelings would be hurt if he not only lost his job as the 3rd WR to Dez but also the punt returner.

Now if Dez is the 4th WR and will remain the 4th the entire season then let him return punts. But if the expectation is for him to move up to 3rd and sometimes a situational 2nd WR then keep him away from returning anything.

Or do you stay with AoA and sure hands Crayton?

What ever the team ask of him. I have no issue with him doing returns if the Wade feels that will give this team an edge.

Nope, Sure don't.

It's not worth the risk. They have others that can handle that.

No. Let either Owusu-Ansah return punts or Crayton still. AOA fumbled too...so maybe keep sure-handed Crayton back there.

If Dez is going to be the #3 receiver, and he's dangerous as a PR, then yes, he needs to be back there doing it. Punt returners don't take a ton of big hits unless they forget to call a fair catch, and if you have a guy who can average >12 yards per punt return it makes a massive difference.

You can't try to save guys constantly. I never liked Newman returning punts because we didn't have depth at corner, but he was our #1 corner at the time. You can't try to protect your #3 receiver. It's just like not letting Felix return kicks or carry the ball. They're football players. Let them play. We have a tough schedule, and it's arrogant to think we're good enough that we don't have to use the best guy possible returning kicks.

I agree. I think if a guy shows himself as a real threat as a returnman then you put him back there. Dallas, Atlanta and SF did that with Deion Sanders, why because he was damn good at it and the object is to win games not save players from some unknown injury. Hell don't throw the ball to Dez he could get hurt. He is a football player and football player play football.

So by your theory QB's should be protected in practice and camp with the different colored jerseys? They are football players right? Let them play football. Why should it be ok for everyone to get hit in practices but not the QB? Just asking.
