Wondering which game or at which stage jerry made the decision to let jason go ? after 10 years of near futility. Given jerry's stubbornness , i am thinking stephen prevaild upon jerry to make the switch . any inside knowledge or thoughts on how this decision was made?

It would only be an educated guess, but I'm willing to bet that Jerry gave Jason every chance he could to save himself. I would say the end truly came in week 16, the loss to Philadelphia taking control of their fate out of Garrett and the Cowboys' hands. So, in the big picture, in some strange way, we have the Eagles to thank for finally being free of the 10-year burden.

He did not fire him, Garrett contract was not renewed. You can't fire someone who no longer has a contract. The start of the 2019 season the Jerry gave Garrett the opportunity to get this team to advance beyond what they had and Garrett was unable to do so. His contract was not renewed.

If it were me it would have been that debacle against Minnesota or New England. Just semi capable instead of inept coaching and we win both of those games

I'm willing to be that we would all be terrified with how hard Jerry Jones tried to keep Jason Garrett. Despite ten years of evidence and this past season and an incredible opportunity wasted, Jerry tried everything he could to find some way, any way, to keep his pet project.

The moment Sam Darnold told reporters during the post-game presser "They did what they always do so we knew exactly what coverage they were running" is when JJ should have walked up to Garrett, stomped on his foot and fired him.

After he interviewed McCarthy and was blown away by him.

It just goes to show that coaching matters more in the NFL than any other professional sport. There are 16 games per season (soon to be 17) and at least 3 games are decided by coaching.

Without a doubt, the Vikings and Patriots games are two that the team should have won with even average coaching. Obviously the Jets game stands out too.

He didn’t. Never fired him. Didn’t renew his contract.

prior year when he said he wouldnt extend his contract. He gave him a year to change his mind but he already knew Garrett wasnt coming back

Stupid loses to teams like the Bears and the Jets help put the Cowboys in that situation in the first place.

It should have never come down to that last game against Filthy.

I have a good friend that's a Jets fan. Now I just walk by him and say 'thanks' and he laughs because he knows exactly what I'm talking about.

He wasn’t fired. But I think Jerry probably reserves judgement until after the season because I don’t think he wanted to let him walk. There’s just no way he could have kept him after such a disappointing season. A contract year.

Like he always does, Jerry handicaps this team with a small number of poor management decisions and by the fact he’s got everybody under a microscope 24/7. It’s a hard place to win Championships from. He does a lot to support his coaches, too, but the pressure and the opportunism and the unwillingness to let his coach be the real figurehead are a lot to overcome. Even when you have good rosters. Things like Zeke’s holdout become issues in Dallas where they’d be blips in Buffalo or Jacksonville.

Of course not, but I knew it would, and I called it weeks ahead of time. The writing was on the wall when this team managed to lose every game they had against anything resembling mediocre competition.

I have one as well, a family member who is cousins with former Jet Nick Mangold. I do the same thing!

I think that ultimately, the Eagles and their fans will regret winning that game, and a meaningless NFC Least champs trip to get quickly and rightly bounced from the playoffs, and ending the Garrett era.

I think that game was the first time in my history as a Cowboys fan I genuinely wanted us to lose. I didn’t want to make the playoffs, get worse draft selections, and get obliterated in the wild card round.

I've wanted to lose before, for the exact reason that it would end this farce of a Garrett era. And even on his way out, as was his pattern, Garrett won an ultimately meaningless game that did nothing but help his chances for survival while doing nothing but hurt this team's draft position. That was his thing. The one thing he was good at, meaningless wins that accomplished nothing but dropping our draft standings. Conversely, when the wins mattered? He failed.

What a legacy.
